Is this the Google Killer?

www.vivisimo.com is supposed to be the google killer. In beta right now but when I checked it out it is pretty cool especially the ebay search mechanism. Fuck google .....long term puts.....there revenue model makes no sense.

Barriers to entry- ZERO

Saying we have more money in the bank then you does not count for anything. First of all google technology is not there own anyway. If I remember correctly it was invented at Stanford.

They're going to have to do something about that domain name.

LOL. It was Larry Page and Sergei Brin who created the initial Google algorithm for their thesis while at Stanford. While this does give Stanford the rights to the system, Stanford does permit them to use it for their business model (exclusively).

Thanks WG for adding some common sense to the thread.

The one you have to watch out for if you are goodle is microsoft. They are working on stuff that will go with longhorn that will give them a distinct advantage over google in that it is built into the operating system...

JP Paradise 10-16-2004 02:01 AM

I never said it was the Google Killer but I read that Google has been concerned about this development because there sole goal is to overtake google.

I could really care less about them but googles revenue model still sucks.....just because you convinced a bunch of people to invest in a search engine that overpaid for the stock does nto make them sucessful longterm.

See where they will be in 2 years!

Sucks? You call making $700 million in revenues in the last quarter sucks? Look at their marketshare for search technology. Look at how many years they've been a top player (relative to internet time). And best of all, their popularity is based on word of mouth and press, very little advertising brought them to where they are today. So sorry they suck to you, but I'll keep with a company that has a solid business model and years of experience under their belt.

The thread title and first line of your original post suggested otherwise.

Did you just find the Internet yesterday? The name alone will prevent that from being a threat.

As someone said above MS will probably be the biggest real threat to Google as they certainly have the money and resources to do so. Depends on a lot of other factors to determine if they succeed though and only time will tell :)

Trax 10-16-2004 03:33 AM

Can you say crappy search results:
http://vivisimo.com/search?query=nud...%3Asources=Web

lol
that's a joke

Tipsy 10-16-2004 03:43 AM

Worth also mentioning that they've been claiming to be a threat to google for a long while now and guess what? They're no more popular now than when they started. Funny that :glugglug
