The US pay some of the lowest GAS prices..

So stop moaning! We pay like 8$ a gallon and most of the world pay far more than you guys do!

Maybe I should move to the US, I do 60,000 miles per year in my car :(

Alex 10-15-2004 08:26 PM

Not all people do 60,000 miles per year im Europe or wherever you are.

maybe, but long distance in europe/uk you drive.. long distance in the states you fly. I always see america moaning about fuel prices and its amazing as they have cheaper fuel than most of the world.. and get paid a far higher average wage than most of the world also.

xclusive 10-15-2004 08:29 PM

I pay a $1.89 so i'm happy and I get money back on that every month...

Europe has more public transportation as well because everything is so compact. In the United States, we don't. Everything is too far apart. Hell it takes me 35 minutes to get downtown, and that's constant driving the whole way.

Flying is way cheaper in Western Europe than here in Canada or the US.

SlutFinder 10-15-2004 08:37 PM

btw I pay 80pence per litre here thats like $1.44 so by my maths that makes it $5.50 per USgallon not $8

Yes sorry i aggree I can fly to paris, rome etc for peanuts but what i mean is internal UK travel is driving because we are to small to bother with flying internal. but still means 4/5hr journeys sometimes.

And you wonder why we went to Iraq.

Our oil is cheaper than yours because besides buying it, we also produce it ourselves.

no its cheaper because you pay less tax on it.. the worlds oil price is more or less the same cost per barrel

When making these comparisons remember that a US pint is 16Floz while a UK pint is 20Floz - so that a US Gallon is actually ony 6 UK pints.

20 US Gallons is therefore 16 UK Gallons - so US gas is not quite as cheap as you might think...

Yea but you guys drive those tiny little cars like Mr. Beanmobiles. If we tried to drive something that small here, we would get run over by all the other big SUV's. The other problem over here is like they said, everything is far away and there is no real public transport system unless you are in a big city.

yeh get the point, but the correct price is above (5.50$) not 8$ as i said originally.. dont see where the pints is relevant though.

We pay by the litre as we are a metric country

Robin WMHQ 10-15-2004 08:57 PM

Pints is relevant because the US only sells in gallons - and 1 gallon is 8 pints (just depends on who's pints that is : )

lol we dont all drive around in mini's man I drive an audi and is a large saloon. i admit your cars eat more fuel on average but thats another thing the US should really look at changing.

I get your point about public transport by the way, you do need to drive but then again I dont use public transport anyway so drive as much as most people there if not more

For the UK at least the public transport point isn't relevant. The price of most public transport is so high that despite the cost of petrol (gas) it's still a lot cheaper to drive for most journeys especially if more than one person is making the trip. Combine that with most shopping (esp food) now being out of town and cars are used almost as heavily as the US.

The other point with public transport in the UK it that although there's a lot of it it's crap. Frequent delays and cancellations, especially on the trains, means people hate using it.

But then you should know that :winkwink:

europe imposes massive taxes on petrol.

Rui 10-16-2004 07:03 AM

True, here we pay alot for gas also (Europel)...

As for comparisons with USA well lets have some other shall we ;) :

- Most americans have no idea what manual transmition is (lame lame lame) so more wasted fuel

- Most american targetted cars waste too fucking much fuel for they performance.

- Most american think that just because they car is big (nevermind its made of the bottom of the barrel stuff) is better than most European smaller cars while in fact it aint...

- Most EU targetted cars are much more refined over the "big badass" crap you find in the states (tech, economy, performance wise)...

Still you guys have cheaper gas...

People would drive a lot less if the gas was more expensive.

During the Olympics in ATL in 1996, there were dire reports on how bad the traffic was going to be so everyone was telecommuting and taking public transportation. It was great. The interstates were wide open.

Of course, the minute the Olympics were over, everyone went right back to their old habits and we have about a month worth of smog alerts a year. :(
