Anybody ever work on an Alaskan fish processing boat?

I am sort of thinking about taking a job on an Alaskan fish processing boat. It is 2-3 months and between $3500 - $5000 a month.

So has anyone done this before? If you did how was it?

colpanic 10-15-2004 08:16 PM

I never did it, but my buddy did one summer.

He said that Alaska was amazing, but that working on a fishing boat fucking blows.

Then again, it's a goddamn boat full of fish so you already knew that :)

No but I would.

I have had many "commercial fishing" friends.
Sounds like tough work.

I want to experience it - first hand.

For sure.

it would be cool to do for a couple days, but no way in hell would i go on a boat for a couple months for shitty pay.

I like to do the tough stuff - just for me.

I'de do it.

And relish that fact - I added another life time story to the old Johnny Beacock book ...

done other things you could call tough as well ..

That is one reason I am actually thinking about it. That is one of those thing that not many people can say they did haha

Also it would be a nice chunk of change to get more stuff going once I get back.

Second week on my current job ...
I had to lift a steel beam 15 feet in the air using a ladder ...

I had bruises across my biceps just from the pressure of lifting it ...

ya - I like being tested.

makes you feel good.

Pushing the envelope ...not giving up ...
yep ... my kinda of stuff ...

Yes ... go for it ...
why not?

Push yourself to the limit.
For sure ...

you will never regret doing that ..

take that to the bank ... your personal spiritual bank ...

those were probably fishermen if we are talking about the same show. . . . processing would not be nearly as fun . . . or dangerous

They are big ships about 150-350 feet long. There are about 34 ships like this a year that go down. I looked that up already haha They do have storms so that would be fun. :helpme

Man, I saw this one story where they repainted one of those fishing boats but changed the painted line on the hull.

So when the dock workers stacked the crab traps they overloaded it and when the boats went out they capsized.. .

The crew did not fare well.. .

That high pay prob is to compensate for higher risk. :2 cents:

a life time story ...
you MUST win though ...
you must do it - to the end ...

then you will get what you really want ...

and it's not money ...

money comes to those with charactor ...

where your morals are not based upon your current account chequing balance ...

patience ...

cya for a bit ...

gone to get some beer ...

I already worked a 12 hour day today - in the patch ...the oil patch
