High School Streaker Gets Up to 2 Years
Friday, October 15, 2004

TOWANDA, Pa. ? A high school graduate was sentenced to up to two years in jail for streaking the graduation ceremony from which he had been excluded.

Russell Chmieleski (search), 18, pleaded guilty to first-degree indecent exposure (search) and must serve six months to two years. Because the charge is a misdemeanor, he can stay in a county jail, rather than state prison.

The first-degree charge was made because children were in the crowd when Chmieleski ran across the football field where the Towanda High School (search) graduation ceremony was held in June.

Police said Chmieleski was upset that school officials excluded him from the ceremony because he graduated in January.

Towanda is about 50 miles northwest of Scranton.

there is a time and a place for everything... in front of a bunch of children is NOT the right time or place to streak.

You don't do stuff like that when you live in Quaker county...

I bet you've never been to europe, they streak over here pretty frequently and they do it where kids are watching... what's the point that they see a dick? It's not like they never saw one before

That's why. Because in the US we seem to believe that if you see a penis, boobs or a vagina before you turn 18, your whole life will decay until you are a crack whore, hooker, porn star, junkie democrat or something. No boobies between breast feeding (and only at home in a darkened room so the mailman isn't scarred for life by accidentally seeing some nipple) and marriage!

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :thumbsup I want to know why they wouldn't allow him just because he graduated in January, it's a right for him to be at the service. It's not like he graduated late.

Mefo 10-15-2004 03:42 PM

oh and btw they don't do jail time for the fact they showed their dick to kids, just for disturbing the peace ;p there's even a tv prog about it

nope, I've never been to Europe.

yes, yes they are.

BRISK 10-15-2004 03:47 PM

I wouldn't necessarily say that there is something wrong with that law, but I'd say that there is something wrong with applying that law to this situation.

Charge him with disorderly conduct, and give him a fine, but 2 years in jail for running naked through a crowd?

CamChicks 10-15-2004 03:48 PM

Nudity has never harmed anyone. Save our prison space for rapists and murderers. This is why real criminals get let out early due to overcrowding.

Kids think it's funny. It's warped adults who have a problem.

Ya that makes the point I was trying to make a little more clear- not so much the law being the problem but the harshness of the sentence given the situation.

By the way, calling it a USA law isn't very accurate

CybermedAndy 10-15-2004 04:20 PM

I said USA laws because that story made me think of your drug laws and the harsh jail sentences you can get for having (arguably) harmless drugs like Pot in your possession.

colpanic 10-15-2004 04:27 PM

Man, Towanda is the middle of fucking nowhere.. (I grew up in Erie).

Those boys ain't got nothin else to do :) That was almost certainly the biggest thing to happen in that town in years.

I wonder if it would have been a girl if the "officials" would have let her go with a warning. And maybe a spanking!

In this case, I think it had more to do with the specific community that this event took place in. Obviously it's not the most liberal community in America. That community is much more fucked up than the law is.

Uptight conservatives just suck the fun out of life. They won't be happy until they live in Pleasantville

NichePay_Manny 10-15-2004 06:31 PM

I couldnt agree with u more .Sometimes US laws are stupid!!!

Webby 10-15-2004 06:39 PM

How come... time and time again, it gets thrust in your face how stupid people are?

Sure he is an ass, but what possible reason or "good" is there is sending someone to prison for this "first degree" charge?? DUH?

BTW.. I love the way the US tries to make silly shit "relevant" by using terms like "first degree". It's like classifying people as "aliens" as tho they come from some different planet.

Again.. there sure is some "judgement" problem in this land of "freedom" and "values".

6 months up to 2 years . . .unless he is a complete asshole in jail he will get out in 6 months

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time

Maybe the amount of time for his crime is stupid? Maybe he shouldn't be doing time at all? Maybe he should just pay a fine, or do community service?

I doubt he had plans to actually join them.

I don't even use drugs- I just recognize how irrational it is to harshly punish someone for possessing a drug like marijuana.

Irony is, people doing drugs (*g* I mean law enforcement, specifically in the US who handle drugs offenses) actually "know" it's stupid in relation to marijuana.

Some I know even have a "it's demeaning" attitude when they gotta waste time and resources on this instead of "real stuff".

But it's not them that make the laws :-)
