Norton hiding REFERRERS ? How to stop hot linking?
hello
we use a pretty standard method of stopping hotlinking on our tours, being we check the REFERRER was sent from our site. Sure its spoofable, but for the most part it works.. we just return a 404 on the request that didn't have the right REFERRER. Anyways, now we are getting complaints from people that all the images on our site are loading as red X's, which presumably is due to them not sending referrers. Common things between all of them XP - SP2 Norton Antivirus Norton Internet Security Anyone having this ? Maybe some stupid "internet privacy toolbar" ? Maybe Norton want lots of hotlinking allowed ? Just thought I'd check with the masses before putting lots of time into it.. Hopefully there is a way around it Thanks |
I think most people just dont hotlink protect their tour graphics...
Heavily brand any sample images... and leave it wide open... Just dont have 50 high ress pics and 10 5 mb vids in your tour is all :winkwink: |
How about galleries ? Seems pretty crazy for Norton to just up and grrrrr
:feels-hot :feels-hot ah well, maybe i'll install a copy and see what headers they modify so we can at least only allow users of this JUNK to hotlink ! anyone has any solutions please let me know |
