GFY is absolutely useless...

... when you're stuck on dialup. One thread I just looked at took about 3 minutes to load.

I thought it was a little on the slow side with DSL, but 56k takes the cake! :1orglaugh

AndrewKanuck 10-14-2004 07:38 PM

People still use dialup? Whoa

cool1 10-14-2004 07:40 PM

That sucks.
I don't think I could handle having to use dialup after having cable access for so long.

fris 10-14-2004 07:41 PM

why are you stuck on dial up bro?:helpme

Drake 10-14-2004 07:43 PM

I never want to go back to dial-up. That's nightmarish.

rowan 10-14-2004 07:43 PM

I'm on dialup because my DSL is dead... again. :feels-hot

Seriously considering moving to a business account with an SLA which includes compensation for downtime.

Rich 10-14-2004 07:45 PM

It's useless without the search. :2 cents:

xclusive 10-14-2004 07:45 PM

I feel for you man think you have it bad how do you think I feel being stuck with 7MB a second service...:Graucho

Spunky 10-14-2004 07:45 PM

I don't know how people stand them

CDSmith 10-14-2004 07:48 PM

If cable modem access is available in your area then there is really no valid reason not to have it, even if it is more expensive. If you are in business, your internet access becomes a business write-off, thus there is no excuse for being on a dialup. The only question remaining is... are you a surfer or is this a business for you?

TheButcher 10-14-2004 07:49 PM

dial up is for idiots

See above. Hard to use the net when my DSL modem attempts to connect, gives up and then assigns me an IP of 192.168.0.2 :Graucho

Yeah, dial-up totally sucks. I haven't been ond dial-up since we moved into an area that had cable.

Replying to this again... this is a business for me, which is why I have the 56k modem as a backup (it's connected permanently to another ISP regardless of the status of the DSL). Obviously this setup costs more since I have two separate accounts. The redundancy does mean that instead of losing connectivity completely I've been able to maintain it in a more limited capacity. It's not practical for me to review/add galleries or trades at the moment since it's so slow, but I can still SSH into my servers, or view stats, etc.

Oh yeah, and waste time starting this thread. :Graucho

I'm paying way less now for broadband than I paid for a 28k internet connection when I first started using the internet. Feels like a bargain paying the bill every month :1orglaugh
