Our local city government just awarded a contract for $218,000 for 4 new lifeguard stands at the beach.

The builder who got the deal said the high cost was due to having a bench and table installed in each of them and having sliding glass doors.

Demand for wood is hign and prices are much higher compared to a few years ago.

Anyone was welcome to bid a lower price and win the job. Not the governments fault nobody did.

It's not corruption. Government contracts are open to anyone willing to bid on them. Contractors are just smart enough not to shoot each other in the foot.
