Australia to ban smoking in hotels and bars

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia will ban smoking in all hotels and bars, except those in the outback Northern Territory, in a move to stop the death of hundreds of bartenders each year from breathing second-hand smoke.

Australia's two most populous states, New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria, will impose total smoking bans in hotels and bars by 2007. Australia's other five states will impose smoking bans in licensed premises from January 2006 through to 2007.

The entire world is turning into smoking nazis. I'm sure people remember when you could smoke on an airplane.

I think it's wonderful ciggaretts kill more people than anything else and they are only allowed to be legal because the companies that make them pay off the law makers,,,

Wow lets all count the many RSL's, pubs, clubs, outdoor dining, bear gardens, nightclubs that will be sacking workers due to the decrease in sales.

We all know how Gaming took a dive in the ass, 60%+ less revenue after they stoped smoking in them.

they just banned smoking where I live too. I am a very light smoker, but I have to admit that I really do like going out to eat etc without smelling like a bar when I get home!! I thought it would suck, but it really isn't that bad.

Been like that for about 3 years here in B.C ,now the clubs have a smoking room or you go outside

Manowar 10-13-2004 06:42 AM

well, smoking is pretty worthless anyway. Why not stop people who dont want to be affected being harmed by others
