Why Do Black People Say Ax instead of Ask ?
 

Ok what's the deal with Black people saying "Can I AX you a question" Are they doing it on purpose or can they really not pronounce ask ? I'm not racist I'm just asking cuz I like it and I think I'm going to start using "Ax" exclusively.

People all over the south say that reguardless of race, most blacks came into the country through the south and so learned the same broken english shared by most people down here. You learn how to speak first from your parents and people around you, this is why accents still exist.

no - its not a physical problem in saying certain words, its cultural

they are still attempting to make people believe that talking like that makes them cool and everyone wants to be 'black' to get the women. I have no racism in me, what I do have a problem is people who pretend they are better than everyone because of what they own.

I'm from the South and I've never heard a white person say Ax unless they were a wannabe wigger.

Care to place a wager on this? There are non black members on this board from the south who say it. Gross generalizations are always so easy to disprove. But I would be happy to take a video camera out with a time stamp and walk about talking to people and get one on tape if you were willing to put a nice chunk of money up. You lived here for a while, I lived here my whole life.

The south ESPECIALLY New Orleans has a problem with the way things are dropped, slurred or mispronounced. Each area of the nation has what is called a dialect, it is a definitive regional way in which the same language is used by people of the same nation. Generally dialects are stronger amongst those who have had family in an area for long periods of time as well as those who are not of influincial famalies. Drop and slur is a southern thing, I do not care what color you are, if your family has been here long enough and you do not make it a point to pronounce everything you say you will begin to drop and slur.

It is like the british accent, it is thicker amongst the older famalies, especially the poorer ones.

I have most of my family in the south... know lots of blacks from the south... not one of them says AX in place of ASK.

Like I said it is all about how much money/pride you have, it has very little do with race other than the fact that minorities tend to be poorer. You can find any kind of attitude or throught process in any race of man, it all depends on where they are from and how they grew up.
