I love how stores try and suck you in

So I'm looking at this Circut City flyer and on the front they have a Compaq desktop with 17" monitor and HP printer on sale for $449.99

So one would think you walk in and walk out with a computer for $450 bucks plus tax....

but if you read the small print at the bottom of the ad it says...

769.99 - $100 in Compaq mail-in rebates - $50 HP mail-in rebates - $150 Circuit City mail-in rebates - $20 Compaq Instant Savings = 449.99

So you really have to pay $749.99 plus tax to walk out of the store with it and wait I'm sure 6 to 8 weeks for the fucking rebates to come in

And you are telling me that this does not happen all over the place.

Ever go to look at the models of homes.

They put everything they can think of in the home to attract you and make you love the home. And the price is ONLY 200k. Not bad. But then you find out that all the kitchen is an upgrade. You get a standard counter top, not corian, you get an 19 cubic foot fridge, not the 27cf sitting there and it goes on and on.

Yeh, I joined this great site last month, was only $1.95 for the trial. I canceled the trial but this month my Visa statement has charges for $98.76!

That's been going on for years everywhere.

The plus side is that you forget about the rebate check and when it comes it's a nice surprise. :2 cents:

Sheri Santiago 10-12-2004 01:50 PM

I bet a pretty high percentage of people either forget to send in the rebates, or dont fill out the forms right and never get paid. Its pretty much a ripoff.

lazycash 10-12-2004 01:58 PM

Is this the first store flyer you've looked at? Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, Staples etc.... have these rebate deals just about every week. Takes a while to get your money, but there are some crazy deals at times.

its only a ripoff if a person is retarded and doesn't know how to properly fill out a form.

Rebates are a huge scam. Companies often need to be reminded several times before they actually send you the rebate. They realize that most people will just give up or forget to send in the rebate in the first place.

thats lame.
