How about...

If you had a pound of feathers on the moon.
And a pound of gold on the earth.

Which would weigh more, and by how much?

and why is it that you say a pound of feathers ??

KRosh 10-11-2004 05:30 PM

pound of feathers is measured in avoirdupois and weighs 16 ounces; a pound of gold is measured in Troy and weighs 12. The ounces are slightly different, but a pound of feathers still weighs 20% more than a pound of gold. Our system is not only confusing to the remainder of the world, it?s sometimes impenetrable to us.

Peaches 10-11-2004 05:30 PM

The feathers. A pound of feathers is measured in avoirdupois and weighs 16 ounces; a pound of gold is measured in Troy and weighs 12.

(I'm not smart, I just know how to type google.com :winkwink: )

HAHA nice

Gold and other precious metals are still weighed in the Troy scale.. which only use 12 ounces per pound.
