Does your company block GFY during business hours?

Or do your employees waste endless hours on it? We've tossed around the idea of doing it for a long time, does your company do it? Do you think it's cool to censor what people can and can't do during work hours? Input is appreciated.

eroswebmaster 10-11-2004 12:54 PM

I don't think it's censorhip...it's just creating a proper work environment...message boards are big time killers...unless they are posting for exposure for the company they shouldn't be doing anything other than working.

polish_aristocrat 10-11-2004 12:54 PM

Isn't GFY a place to do business?
When your employees post here, don't they promote your company in that way?

Sly 10-11-2004 12:54 PM

You're paying them to be there, and if they aren't helping your business while surfing, go for it.

xclusive 10-11-2004 12:55 PM

make it as simple as this if they aren't productive fire thier ass... So allow them to have access but if they abuse it they lose it...

Fabuleux 10-11-2004 12:56 PM

I don't agree, I think it's ok to surf around a bit if they get their work done properly, and on time.

BradM 10-11-2004 12:56 PM

Unless they are sales reps, they don't need to be here. Block it, bottom line.

Wish people didn't ask support questions and shit here cause I'd love to ditch it at work too.

ronaldo 10-11-2004 12:57 PM

If utilized properly, GFY CAN have a good effect on your business.

Contrary to popular opinion, business does happen here.

Addendum-It may not happen HERE, but relationships are formed here, leading to business being done.

detoxed 10-11-2004 12:57 PM

LOL so when someone bad mouths your company no one can come and defend it! LOL sounds good to me

Not when the employees posting have nothing to do with sales or marketing of the company.

Herb Kornfield 10-11-2004 12:58 PM

I have worked for companies that do block all adult materials, webmail and the like.

It all depends on the person and what their task is and how effective they are at what they do and in relation to the whole operation.

Some places block instant messaging which I think is stupid since IM is an excellent tool when used properly.

Exactly, that would be my only argument. If they are not in marketing, they should NOT be here on work time.

WiredGuy 10-11-2004 01:07 PM

I strictly forbid anyone who is or has worked for me from posting on these boards. They're the brains of the company and I don't need them being tempted to leave :)

Forum Board is one of the means you want to expose your business with customers.

If you talk about Adult Boards, GFY is top of the food chain, thus its a must that you
get the exposure the best way possible

Our company doesn't have an affiliate program, we don't sell a product, we don't offer services to webmasters, we don't market ourselves to anyone in any way that requires us to be visible on a message board. GTS has our sales more then covered, so we trust in them to expose us.

BradM 10-11-2004 01:15 PM

*Flicks Wrist* YOU'RE FIRED!

TheDatingNetworkCameron 10-11-2004 01:21 PM

So on another note, who gets to enjoy a nice turkey dinner tonight?

I find this thread very interesting.

Personally, I think it sucks. You are posting on a message board and asking if you should block the board for those who should not be posting here from work. At the same time you are saying that GTS has your exposure covered. So why in the hell are you posting here?

Yes, I know it is a holiday but I also think I know the agenda behind this thread.

Cam, it's your company....Not the company of your employees. As Jenn said, it's your decision since you write the checks. I know you. I respect you. My opinion is that you should respect yourself enough to make these decision on your own without other employees planting thoughts in your ear. Everybody has a different agenda than the owner of the company.

You have always been upfront, fair, and honest. Don?t let others influence you in those areas. :2 cents:

BradM 10-11-2004 02:03 PM

Aaron, and then you have to understand unproductivity and if an employee is pushing back deadlines because he/she surfs gfy there is probably a problem that NEEDS to be looked at regardless of WHO offers that situation be looked at.

Not a hard concept to grasp really.

This thread was started about a specific employee. An employee that was told one day that they were way ahead of schedule. The next day that employee was told they were not getting enough work done...Both comments were made by the same person...One who does not sign the checks.

I like everybody in that company but as a business owner myself, I know who should and who should not be running the show. Cam and Chris are the owners. This should be their decision based on what THEY see their employees doing.

If I owned C.A.P.S., I would be pretty pissed at one of my employees for bringing this to the boards.

Interesting. Considering it was an owners decision, weeks if not months ago, to do this.

This post is full of misinformation. It really isn't worth getting into it though, thanks for your insights.
