Why is the GUI for firefox so fucking slow?

What causes it?

detoxed 10-10-2004 03:58 PM

shitty computer?

Myst 10-10-2004 04:03 PM

dont think so, this happens on every single computer ive ever been on, including the high powered ones at the university..

my comp is a 2800+ with a gig of ddr..

ie just seems so much more responsive, so does opera.

it is slow as fuck for me too

on my athlon xp mobile 2400 and on my athlon xp 3200+

i hate that browser, takes like 5-10 seconds even to just load up

smack 10-10-2004 04:05 PM

probably because firefox supports skins. so imagine they would load their forms differently, even if you're not using a skin. that may cause that.

smack 10-10-2004 04:05 PM

i'm not currently having any problems with it on my 64 bit machine.

Myst 10-10-2004 04:12 PM

anyone who says it runs 'fine' is full of shit

youre probably so used to its slowness you cant really notice it anymore

go load up opera or myie2 and browse a few sites with it, interact with the GUI, then go back to firefox and tell me firefox isnt slow as hell

i mean, almost every input area on firefox has like a 0.3 second (min) lag after clicking it for it to have focus

So does IE.

It's just fully integrated into the OS (which is a bad thing...depending on how you look at it)

Once you load FF, it'll be cached and the next time you load it, it'll pop right up.

thats a load of crap

why does opera start up in instantly?

and why is the gui slow for FF?

I uninstalled it on one of my busy days.

And whoever said cache, I tested both browsers and Firefox is noticably slowwwwwwwwww.

opened it again, and it took 6 seconds

i just opened IE and it popped open instantly
