Nobel peace laureate claims HIV deliberately created

Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, today reiterated her claim that the AIDS virus was a deliberately created biological agent.

"Some say that AIDS came from the monkeys, and I doubt that because we have been living with monkeys (since) time immemorial, others say it was a curse from God, but I say it cannot be that.

"Us black people are dying more than any other people in this planet," Ms Maathai told a press conference in Nairobi a day after winning the prize for her work in human rights and reversing deforestation across Africa.

"It's true that there are some people who create agents to wipe out other people. If there were no such people, we could have not have invaded Iraq," she said.

"We invaded Iraq because we believed that Saddam Hussein had made, or was in the process of creating agents of biological warfare," said Ms Maathai.

"In fact it (the HIV virus) is created by a scientist for biological warfare," she added.

"Why has there been so much secrecy about AIDS? When you ask where did the virus come from, it raises a lot of flags. That makes me suspicious," Ms Maathai said.

Africa accounts for 25 million out of the estimated 38 million across the world infected with HIV, and the vast majority of infected Africans are women, according to UNAIDS estimates.

The United States on Friday congratulated Ms Maathai on winning
the Nobel Peace Prize, but tempered its praise over her claims about AIDS.

"She said (HIV/AIDS) was invented as a bio-weapon in some laboratory in the West," a senior State Department official said.

"We don't agree with that."

The official pointed to a report of those comments published in August in Kenya's daily Standard newspaper, in which Ms Maathai was quoted as saying that HIV/AIDS was created by scientists for the purpose of mass extermination.

Just because no one got a virus from a monkey before this doesn't mean it was man-made. Our encroachment upon previously unexplored and unexploited wilderness has caused many new virii to cross into the human population, an example being the bird flus currently posing such a huge danger in Eastern Asia.

China is starting to have a huge problem with HIV, over 1,000,000 are infected over there if not more.
India is just now starting to recognize it.

im not supporting her assumption as it more then just machiavellian, it is plain evil.

however, if you really wanted to do something and your plans were part of a group like a government, actions over 20-30 years are acceptable. Long term planning i guess..lol

I used to work for a bio-chemist when going to school. He was top in his field.
went to Guelph (my school and one of the top research schools in the world for chem and bio chem)

then he did harvard undergrad and then MIT for his doctorate. He came back to Guelph, and is currently working on plan, to stop all viruses etc.

Here is the plan loosely
->even if a virus mutates its outer shell to hide, the inner workings dont change much, so they are targetting the tRNA and going to deny it the proteins/amino acids etc to do its job....which is to bring the dna across the ribosomes to replicate and produce more viruses.

So if succesful, you would just piss out any viruses which are attacking you.

This isn't big news. Crackpots have been saying for years that aids was invented by the vatican to kill sinners.

It would make perfect sense it would kill any sinners. If your carefull and live by the bible you dont ever have to worry about aids ( or about as likely as getting struck by lightning )

Perhaps Africans should stop blaming everybody else and actually DO someting to help themselves. Of course they try to cure the disease by having sex with babies but that does not seem to work.

It's fairly simple to NOT get Aids. Aside from those who picked it up from blood tranfusions or were born with it (Thanks mom!).

Her reasoning is kind of weak in my mind though. Nobody ever got a virus from a monkey before? Okay, fine. Until very recently nobody ever got a virus from a chicken before. Now Avian Flu has jumped species. Do you suppose someone created it to kill chicken farmers and egg lovers everywhere?

Congressman James Traficant of Ohio started to look into this very matter, then he was thrown into prison on fraud charges shortly later.

A lot of people will tell you it was a corrupt government who put him away, and his interest in the origin of HIV is my theory why.


It's been well documented that the original source of HIV was probably a trial for a new Hepatitis B vaccine. They gave it in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The HIV outbreak then exploded in these very areas.


The US Government has a long and admitted history of exposing it's own citizens to things for the sake of science. They allegedly stopped doing such tests in the 1980's, but it's always taken decades to find out about previous secret testing so it'll be awhile before we know for sure. Things such as Gulf War Syndrome make you wonder if it's still going on though.

I don't know if it was man made or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if one day proof came out that it was or some agency openly admitted creating it. Stranger things have happened.

Who would have thought governments would perform radioactive tests on their own citizens or deliberately give them syphilis? Those are scenarios that sound like something out of a medieval fairy tale yet they're true. Scary stuff when you think about it.

But even if aids is man made, it's not the type of disease you are forced to contract. Nobody forces you to have sex without health tests or condoms.

Again, wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was true. If it is, I hope hard evidence surfaces eventually. I'm sure there are scientists in all types of remote places in the world running tests with natural or man made agents using obscure populations as their guinea pigs. Better to try it out there and see its effects than to do it in your own country.

But Arafat's peace prize was politically motivated, nothing more and they now regret it. It's one of the reasons they prefer awarding the prize to somebody who is already dead... once you're dead you can't do something that will make them regret giving you the prize.

This debate has gone on for a long time with scientists on both sides. It could easily be a conspiracy theory, but it could actually be true. Some people want to make a name for themselves by coming up with wild theories. At the same time Governments are infamous for doing atrocious things to their own citizens.
