Muhammad Ali or Michael Jordan hands down. Hogan was a great body builder though. Wrestling is not a sport, it is sport entertainment........ ever wonder why they specifically say this instead of sport?

Ali was knocked down by Banks, arguably beaten by Doug Jones, knocked down by Cooper (his corner cheated to buy him time), Liston quit on his stool and then took a dive in the rematch, was beaten soundly by Frazier the first time, got nearly murdered by Norton the first and third time, received a gift against Jimmy Young. The rest of his career is too sad to even discuss.

As for Jordan, his team won 57 games with him in the line-up and 55 when he went to play baseball. In contrast, before Bird arrived the Celtics won 29 games; with Bird they won 61. When he missed a season due to injury, he was replaced with Reggie Lewis. The Celtics could do no better than 40 wins.

Thank you. Goodnight.

Pele was quite an athlete as well.
Although slightly overrated imho. :)

xclusive 10-11-2004 03:11 AM

Jordan was the man he dominated for so long and was taken away for a few of the years where he was at his peak.

born4porn 10-11-2004 03:14 AM

jordan's 6 full seasons resulted in championships. he's hands down the greatest sports star

now if you wanna talk greatest athlete, i would said deion sanders.

.:St Ides:. 10-11-2004 12:42 PM

Bo jackson was the best pure athlete there was.

Pete Rose was the man in baseball, no one will ever catch him in hits which of course hits and batting at a consistant level is a lot better then hitting home runs.

Michael Johnson was also amazing.

Mark Spitz

For boxing what about Joe Louis, he went 13 years without losing the title.

There were many who were great.

evelknievel 10-11-2004 01:31 PM

Bruce Lee.

Unlike other "sports stars", he changed his 'sport' forever.

other sports stars become famous, he became the definition of the sport.

Sir Donald Bradman by an absolute mile!! 70 years on and his records are still heads above the players that have followed him.

And if anyone asks "Who's he?" or "What sport did he play?" they are ignorant and shouldn't even be reading a thread about great sportsmen.

Tiger Woods isn't even the best golfer TODAY, in his prime. Vijay Singh and Ernie Els are both ranked above him. In the history of the game, Jack Nicklaus and Bobby Jones are so far ahead of the field that it isn't even worth discussing.
