Surround sound system, help a newbie out.
If I get a surround sound system to hook up to my Xbox, the only thing I have to do is plug the 2 "sound wires" red and white or whatever they are into the surround sound system and that is it???

If you got 2 wires coming out of your xbox, your only going to get stereo (if the xbox send the sound in stereo and not mono). The broadcast has to be in surround sound for you to be able to use surround sound. If it's broadcast in stereo, your only going to get stereo (even though you have a surround sound system). Same if the broadcast is in mono. A surround sound system just allows you to listen to a broadcast that is in surround sound.

That should be it, or you can also plug your XBOX into your TV and your TV into your system...

get the component video adaptor for xbox, and use the optical audio output on it for dobly 5.1 surround. Of course this wont work for you if your tv doesnt not also have component video input.

Do you have a dolby digital receiver? If so, you need to get the "Advanced AV pack" so you can use the optical audio output, and either the composite video output or the svideo, depending on what is available on your TV.
Don't get the "HD AV pack" because it comes with component video outputs which you won't have on an old cheap TV. If your receiver is not dolby digital then just use the red and white as others have mentioned. That will get you Dolby Pro Logic sound. |
