LinkSys Wireless Router is shit

Anyone owns linksys wirelesss routers here? Got this shit a week ago, everything works fine but the other PC on the network even though it says: excellent signal is fucking slow, and after 1 hour freezes up and shit, what the fuck could be the problem , anyone know? :helpme

Manowar 10-09-2004 09:20 AM

Yeah, I have a wireless one too - fucking hate it at times

Babaganoosh 10-09-2004 09:23 AM

Sounds like something with the PC, not the router.

cyberbuttz 10-09-2004 09:35 AM

that sounds like a configuration problem of the PC... not the router...

but that also depends on whether or not you changed any of the basic settings of the router too...

trafficguy 10-09-2004 10:21 AM

I had linksys problems myself... Went thru 2 of them before I switched over to Netgear. I've had no problems since.

trust me, its probably the router - linksys wireless are terrible

Tom_PMs 10-09-2004 10:24 AM

Never have had a problem with mine since the day I turned on the new laptop two years ago.

Except one day I checked the dhcp table and saw some unknown person leeching my signal, so I booted him and limited access to just my own computers.
WiFi might be the new thing, but not on my system, lol doh!

Furious_Male 10-09-2004 10:25 AM

If you are using the WRK54G toss it. Its a piece of shit and 2 Cisco techs I talked to confirmed it.

Get the WRT54GS. They have an optional signal booster (acts like a cell tower) if you have a large house. I have had no problems with that set up.

SmokeyTheBear 10-09-2004 10:35 AM

heh funny

I just bought a linksys usb wireless adapter for my microsoft router

I broke off the antenna within 5 minutes. Not that it matters though because the software wouldnt even load

When i phone support the guy said , the software never loads.

They do have nice support though , 24 hours a day (outsourced support though )

I had more hassles with my microsoft router.

The software for my microsoft broadband isnt compatible with SP2 ( and its fucking made by the same company )

Peaches 10-09-2004 10:44 AM

I have one and to be honest, I don't think I even used the software. The computer picked up the connection right away. I could be wrong but I swear I don't think I did anything else but hook it up and turn it on.

detoxed 10-09-2004 10:44 AM

problem = you set something up wrong

Hehehe - my techs used to swear I had some kind of magnetic field that would fuck up any computer, switch, telephone system, etc. anywhere around me :winkwink:

mary34d 10-09-2004 04:05 PM

It is a bitch setting up and getting everything working, but after that it has been smooth sailing for me and my Linksys wireless!:thumbsup

RawAlex 10-09-2004 05:05 PM

Two Dlinks in the house here, one older B, and one G. Both work fine together, the house is large, gives me good coverage on all 4 floors.

Never had an issue with linksys dsl routers, but never went to them for hubs.

I have a MS Broadband Networking Wireless Basestation (MN-700). I run my PC (win2K), laptop running on XP with SP2 (both wireless and hardwired), 3 sometimes 4 xboxes (one wireless). Never had a problem.

Yes the WRT54G and GS are pretty solid. The WRK models suck.

pornguy 10-09-2004 06:22 PM

If you have spybot on that computer, I heard someone here say that it will delete the files that you need to run the wireless conection. It happened to me. I have just not had the time to fix it.

bdld 10-09-2004 08:22 PM

havent tried the G wireless router yet, i'll stick with my old one for now, the thing's worked nonstop for 3 years now.

D_Nell 10-09-2004 10:24 PM

Try changing your channels on the router and your wireless card. I was getting shit 11mps on channel 2 change to like channel 11.:thumbsup

fusionx 10-09-2004 11:23 PM

I threw my Linksys in the trash and bought a D-Link. It hasn't dropped the signal yet, and I've been using it for over a week.

My signal strength is a little low, but I still get 54mbps above 50% of the time, and the throughput jumps up to 108 about 10% of the time. My router is upstairs, and this PC is on the first floor on the other end of the house. Not so bad..

It's the DI-624 Rev C, with the Super-G stuff.. doubles the throughput with a matching card.

I ordered two of the Hawking Tech hi-gain antennas (6db omni-directional) and should see some huge improvements with those in place. I think they are $24.00 each after a $10 rebate.

Dump the Linksys.. it's a never ending excercise in frustration!
