What would happen if no one voted?

Theortically if everyone decided to protest this loser fixed system we have to endure every four years and not a single person went to vote, what would legally happen? Does anyone know?

Nader 10-08-2004 11:13 PM

Bush would stay president and the world would end :(

Easton 10-08-2004 11:13 PM

i don't think the law has addressed it since it's absolutely impossible

Theo 10-08-2004 11:14 PM

Here it's obligatory by law to vote. If you don't like any of the parties you put a blank vote.

brizzad 10-08-2004 11:15 PM

the electorial college chooses the president, not us common folk

Marcus Aurelius 10-08-2004 11:15 PM

in the event of an electoral college tie, the President would be elected by
the (new) House of Representatives, and the Vice-President would be elected
by the (new) Senate.

I assume it would be the same if NO one voted.

The same person would win regardless. No ones vote means anything really, when the Constitution was first drafted the founding fathers didn't think the common person knew shit about politics, so they created the Electoral College to make sure the majority wouldn't fuck anything up. It doesn't make a difference if you vote or not.

There would be NO ELECTORS to vote, if no one elected them. You are actually voting for the Electors not the person running for president.

So we would have a constitutional problem on our hands. I suspect congress would in the end pick the president. The vote would be along party lines.

In the end the Supreme Court would get to decide.

Of course this will never happen.

pussyluver 10-08-2004 11:45 PM

It appears as close as I can tell from a few minutes with Google that The House would elect the president.

CET 10-09-2004 12:20 AM

How about we protest by voting for the candidate that we actually like best rather then one of the two candidates we hate less? Imagine how much better things would be for you if you actually elected someone you liked!

Manowar 10-09-2004 12:24 AM

the machines would tell you bush would win :1orglaugh

Rochard 10-09-2004 12:48 AM

What would happen if no one voted?

Nothing would change.

WickedVenus 10-09-2004 12:49 AM

yeah thats a good question, but we cant do that becasue bush would be in office still.

The presidential candidates vote so you'd have at least 2 votes.

FUCK BUSH VOTE KERRY

as a non bush supporter and not very hopefull of kerry, will you be voting kerry because of the hate bush scenerio or because of what he stands for?

the more i read about this, the more i am staring to believe that the only reason kerry will be voted for is to say f you to bush.

that is not a reason to vote someone in or to vote someone out.

the one thing that truly worried me about kerry is the fact that he wants to all but eliminate our missle defense system. we need that system because without it, we are sitting ducks.

there is a lot more that worries me with bush (way too many to list here). one worry of importance is another four years of ashass.

Please explain to me the differance.......

If I hate red and I dislike blue and I have to pick one then I will pick blue because I dislike it less or like it more than red. Looking at it your way is symantics. A lot of elections are "the lesser of two evils"

dennisthemenace 10-09-2004 04:32 AM

Way too much social hypnosis going on for that.

There are still way too many people that are pleased, excited and very into the concept of 2 people being enough choice for them.

The amount of Bush and Kerry bumper stickers and lawn signs I'm seeing around here makes me ill.

I still have a raging hardon for the idea of webmasters pushing the libertarian party and changing the system "on the sly" while TV polls are showing strictly Bush/Kerry figures.

But then again, I'm just a nutty dreamer that most people don't listen to :1orglaugh
