where did ya get that domain? *hick accent*

KRL 10-08-2004 02:21 PM

DB do you serve as a broker on all these domains you post on here or do you buy them for your own account also?

Some I keep, some I sell. This one actually doesn't fit with my game, but I'd been pursuing the seller for literally months, and she finally dropped her asking significantly.

KRL, I gave you a crack on this one, but it was during your server meltdown, and once you posted for me to resend, it was already gone.

Cool, good to know, if I have anything in the future for sale I'll contact you.

I know Erections is a good name, but its not my type. Great for the penis guys here for sure though. You should contact Brian at FastSize.com on it.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give the new owner the option of following up. If he gets a good enough offer, he's open to selling, but if not, expect to see a rocking site. He's not really a GFY'er. :Graucho

Nice!

But, it makes me wonder what value might be reasonably placed on a very nice domain name that gets:

Let's say, at least an average of 85 type-ins a day? Would $8,000 seem crazy (especially compared to $25,000?)

What about an even better name that averages at least 250 type-ins a day? Would $24,000 seem crazy?

P.S. - the "japanese" joke was BRILLIANT!!!

All depends on the niche and quality of the traffic.

DomBuyer 10-08-2004 05:52 PM

BTW, does anyone know this delusional fellow who wants $900,000 for erection.com?

He's got an email addy suspiciously close to DK's

I agree! Let's say they are at least as good as "erections" then what would you estimate the value to be???

I've seen cases where people unfamiliar with domains mistake type-ins for other types of traffic. If you're asking these questions, I assume you're not too experienced with domain dealing. You need to be really careful to differentiate the source of traffic.

Also note that DomBuyer said niche *and* quality of traffic...erections is a niche (of sorts), so I assume you're saying the niche is at least as good as erections. The quality is something different...people type in TGP domain names, but those type-ins are typically of a lower value than an equivalent unadvertised generic type-in.

You can't be as confused as you are pretending to be . . . can you?

Are you new to the business? My guess is you didn't read the thread . . . so go on back and read carefully!

I've read the thread, and reread your two posts. I'm not sure what you think I'm confused about, and I'm not new.

As I understand it, you seem to want to hear that a couple domains you have (or are hypothetical domains) are worth $8k+ and $24k+. They may very well be, but without knowing the domains, it's impossible to say. I'm just suggesting that if you're not familiar with the domain biz, it's possible you're overlooking some factors in your description. As I said, I've seen people describe domains as getting a lot of type-ins, but it turns out they were getting search engine hits. You may know the difference and are describing everything accurately, I just don't know. It would be unusual for a domain pro to post the sorts of questions you're asking, so it seems possible you may be overlooking something, and I just wanted to give you a heads up to be aware of that. There are also quite a few other factors that go into domain pricing, although type-in rate for generic terms and the topic are big ones.

True story:
When Douglas MacArthur's name was being bandied around as a possible candidate for the presidency of the United States, this immortal slogan was written across an enormous banner in downtown Tokyo: "We Play For MacArthur's Erection".

Excellent post. I understand exactly what you are saying. I just got a little "chippy" at your first post to me (which was similar in spirit to my response). Sorry bout that.

I think my main point was being made (or asked) of the posters who are praising this name while "laughing" at a name that is obviously better and priced lower in another thread.

I've been on message boards long enough to know why this happens, so I wasn't really looking for a literal answer to my question. I was just trying to point out the inconsistency.

I do, however, appreciate your post!
