Just Rented Passion/Christ...have questions!

I'm thankful I had a fast forward button on my remote cuz that beating scene was way too long and intense.

Here is prolly stupid questions but....who was the 'person' in dark cape who appeared throughout the movie, what did they represent other than Evil?

and who were the other two hanging on crosses?

and who was the chick that was always by Mary's side?

Maybe I have to go back and read the bible or something.

:helpme

jacked 10-08-2004 10:40 AM

i'm pretty sure the woman in the cape with the baby was the devil i'm not sure of that though i wondered about that myself anyone know more abou this?

JFK 10-08-2004 10:40 AM

the other two on the crosses were common thieves, I forget about Marys sidekick....... just watch it again :winkwink:

I've heard mel gibson say that guy is basically what you said, a representation of evil.

the two guys on the cross with him were theives who were also sentenced to crucifiction.

the woman with mary is mary magdalana (sp?) she was a one time prostitute ( if I remember correctly ) who was befriended by jesus and changed her ways. Many people suspect they were lovers but there was no proof.

Hey You . . . I Know You! 10-08-2004 10:42 AM

I thought the "dark cape guy" was juicy.

I just saw on DRUDGEREPORT.COM that Mary actually kept a blue dress that had some of Jesus' DNA on it. It was never washed (dry cleaned) - and was stored in a closet at her mother's house.

That could be all the proof they need.

The person in the dark cape is Lucifer himself.

The 2 other guys on the cross are thieves.

The chick who's always on Mary's side is Magdalene (the prostitute that Jesus helped when she was stoned)

Hope that helps. :glugglug

Now I feel like an angel. ehe

I'm pretty sure that the prostitue (who was to be stoned to death) was not Mary Magdalene.

Magdalene was the one who washed Jesus' feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. At that time, he forgives her of her sins and from that point on, she follows him.

pretty much right on. There was actually a lot of outcry from the christian community from the scene if you remember where Jesus was working and then Mary Magdalene beckoned him and he came to her lovingly embraced her and kissed her. That didn't look like they were just friends that is for sure.

In the beginning the Devil temped Jesus. This is in the bible that the Devil tried to tempt Jesus one last time to go to him and be by his side and he would make all the troubles go away.

Based on the teachings of the bible it is believed that before Jesus died on the cross the world was in control of the Devil. Because people would sin and they would not be forgiven. Once Jesus died on the cross this was changed and people could be forgiven for their sins by believing that Jesus was their savior. That is why at the end you see the Devil cast away on some barren wasteland, Hell.

Just what 10 years of Catholic school taught me. Could be wrong.

I think that it wasn't a prostitute either (if you are referring to the "He who is without sin" stoning). Wasn't she just caught cheating on her husband or something?

The Passion of the Christ was a great movie. The sequel will be even better. Jim Carrey will be playing Jesus. I cant wait.

Yeah Jesus cast seven demons out of Mary Magdalene.
She was at his crucifixion and she was one of the first persons to see Him after he rose from the dead...

etc etc :winkwink:

right on the spot Eric... i thought the movie was very clear and graphic. It gives a good view on what He did for us.

The actor wasn't chosen right in my opinion, but that's just me.

ShellyCrash 10-08-2004 11:17 AM

I side with arguments that say Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute, and she didn't wash Jesus's feet with her hair. Those women in the new testament have been combined over the years, but if you actually read it there is no indication that they are the same female.

Mary was like an apostle, if you are really into this stuff there are alot of gospels that were omitted from the official "bible". Some of the original writings were found in ancient Rome and places in the holy land like the dead sea scrolls. There's a long writing by, I think Peter where he talks about how he was jealous of Magdalene because Jesus loved her more and in a different way then himself and the other apostles. Jesus gave her more attention and kissed her, and this made him very upset. I know it kind of sounds homosexual, but if you put it in context with Peter thinking that this man is the son of god, and god himself, his messiah, it's not about sex or sexuality at all.
:2 cents:

Wow, thanks for clearing this up! ok Lucifer was rep of evil, chick sidekick was the prostitute probably and the others crucified were common thieves.

I have actually learned alot from this thread on GFY,

I forgot one question tho...

The young guy that was with Mary, Jesus' mom, kept calling Mary "Mother". He was with her alot in the movie.

I thought Mary was a Virgin but had the son of God, I didn't know Jesus had a brother whose mother was also Mary???

Ok, help me clarify this one for my ignorance. :helpme

As I was reading that, I was thinking... he has got to be Catholic! :)

Lori, Jesus did not have a brother. The disciples called her "mother" as she is the mother of God

Not mother of all per say. Mother of God.

Since Mary is Jesus? mother, it must be concluded that she is also the Mother of God: If Mary is the mother of Jesus, and if Jesus is God, then Mary is the Mother of God. There is no way out of this logical syllogism, the valid form of which has been recognized by classical logicians since before the time of Christ. (Catholic.com)

evelknievel 10-08-2004 12:56 PM

Man you guys have to pay more attention...

Mary Mag was a prostitute, but she wasn't the whore that was going to be stoned.

Jesus died on the cross beside 2 theives.

Jesus was put in the tomb, and three days later....he rose from the dead, rolled back the stone to his tomb, and saw his shadow which means 6 more weeks of winter.....

:helpme

This has probably already been answered....

The person in the black cape is satan. Evil incarnate. The devil.

The other two on the crosses were theves, crucified at Golgotha as well. The bible (the New American Bible) doesn't say their names, just that they were criminals.

The other lady, is Mary Magdaline. She was a whore, who became a follower of Christ. Some groups believe that Mary Mag and Jesus were a couple. Most just think she was a follower who became more like a sister.

Catholic's and I believe most Christians believe that Jesus and God are one in the same.

The Catholic Church believes that there is one God in three Persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

Also, Mary was a "virgin" when she had Christ. Its totally unlogical to think that she remained such through out life and that Joseph and Mary never had other children.

Cyndalie 10-08-2004 02:24 PM

I played Mary Magdeline in a school play once for Easter I think. Mary did wipe the face of Jesus when he was carrying his cross and legend is when she took the cloth away his face appeared on teh cloth - blood, sweat, and tears I assume.

pornguy 10-08-2004 02:25 PM

As for the DNA proof.

WTF?

It would prove what?? That he was human??

It will not prove anything other than the fact that someone got blood on her dress.

PrincessWannaLaya 10-08-2004 02:55 PM

The young guy always beside Mary was one of Jesus's follower's, one of few who didnt betray him.... Mary was a virgin when she conceived Jesus, thats why its called the imaculate conception...( atleast thats what they call it in spanish, not sure on the spelling tho ) and no, he had no brothers or sisters... hope that helps ...
:)

XBizLori 10-08-2004 03:02 PM

ok now I am confused again...

first the chick by Mary was Mary the prostitute, now someone posted that Mary the prostitute was the one who wiped his face carrying the cross...which did happen in the movie but it was another chick that came out of nowhere and did that.

so which one was Mary the prostitute and then who would the other one be?

inabon 10-08-2004 03:05 PM

it is the devil. he used to interact a lot with christ according to the bible. it all started on the 40 day 40 night period that christ was in the desert eating and drinking nothing. the devil tempted him in many ocassions.

in the movie it is portrayed as that sexless looking ent. notice how you can not tell if it is woman or man.

according to the bible he was around all through the whiping and cross thing

yeah i used to be a presbiterian school kid now i do porn go figure hehe.

This is the central core of the faith. You are not a Christian if you don't believe this.
