Why do we bother searching for cures for Aids and Cancer

I think that the research is a good thing, because of all the interesting things that they find in the mean time.

We should actually be trying to search for a cure against war and terrorism. I believe peace maybe vital to this cure.

What about searching for a medical ?cure? for ugliness???

Let's find the cure for the 40,000 children that die of hunger each day. That's got to be a lot easier and higher priority. They haven't even lived yet.

I am with you on that one. It would be great to be able to allocate your tax from war expenditure to helping feed those children. Lets see George Bush blow the fuck out of a country for no reason when all the cash is goign to help feed children.

supposedly USA is a democracy. Therefore, you can lobby for such a law, that your tax money go to feed kids instead of war....

now, my 2 cents about why people are always looking for the cure to cancer and not to hunger:
they are scared of cancer, because they may get it... but not scare of malnutrition or hunger... it's human nature, you are concerned about what affects you directly.

I may be wrong, but most likely I'm not ;-)

Don't fool yourself. They don't want cures for cancer, aids, or any disease. Much more profitable to treat than cure.

There's little/no money to be made in feeding the poor. War, however, has a proven track record in making tons of money for certain sectors so guess who has more lobbyists.

would the pharm. companies want people to stop buying treatment medicine for aids if they could simply take one pills and be cured of it? NOPE

If we were to find a cure for aids tomorrow, and were able to treat the thousands of people in africa who are infected, that wouldnt be worth it? its not all about the money man.

I get your argument about the major companies not making as much money as they would selling the more expensive treatments, but I still think its worth looking for a cure.
