How does traffic to typo/misspelled domains of existing paysites usually convert?
Example: mikesappartment.com - misspelling of mikesapartment.com. What are your experiences?
|
The owner of this domain posted today on GFY, maybe he will see this thread, LOL.
|
they convert like crap :)
|
ask jj he owns moviedive.com (moviedrive.com)
redirects with his affil code |

|
well it depends if you use your brain or not
If a guy types that in hes looking for THAT site not for a TGP not for a penis enlargment scam hes looking for THAT site, SO if you point to that site youll make bank if you just do what 90% of idiot webmasters do you will not sell shit. |
yep, just set up a redirect.

Some are just stupid and although they know it's a paysite, they hope they will get in for free. Some get declined by credit card procesors. Some are underage and cannot join anyway so they just click on free trailers. so the ratio would be higher than 1:10. Just my OPINION :) |
1:50 i'd say
the other 49 are people who are already members :) |
nope
its crapola.. go do some real work and youll make more money |

There's 2 issues here
1) Typo squatting laws -- There's a US law against such practices. 2) Level of 'typo' -- There's a wired or some other online magazine article on this that you can pull up via google search. I don't have the exact url. But from what I remember the tip is: The closer the typo is to the actual domain, the more effective your conversions. However, this also makes you more susceptible to 1) above. :2 cents: |

Pornsites don't care. You can't trademark a porn name either I don't believe. |
usually below 1:150

I would think they don't convert very well. It's like typing in yaho.com instead of yahoo.com
If yaho.com goes to anything other than a search engine, the person will likely not be interested. Is the revenue from mistyped domains really worth the trickle of traffic they get? |
I guess if you're squating a name like mikessapartment.com and you're marketing mikesapartment.com it would convert decent. But would this most likely mean they're already members since they're familiar with the domain?
