Can you use a University's name in a porn domain?

If you realy have girls from that school could you still get sued?

NinjaSteve 10-07-2004 10:06 AM

I believe you'll eventually get sued because the school will think it's defamation of their name and reputation.

I was thinking the same thing. But if all the girls were from that school would you win in court?

A few years back I had a couple cam girls with their room set up to look like a NYU dorm room, with a NYU banner on the wall and shit like that. NYU sued me for $90 million. Crazy sum, totally ridiculous amount, but it sure did get me to stop.

I would think the girls could get kicked out of the U if it was found out...

definitely a very bad idea. i've learned it in the past the hard way.

not even using a porn site... should have been an unofficial team site, then I got to know that I'd just get sued using the trademarked logo on the site, or the name for that matter.

Universities are very careful with defamation, don't go there.

Many big schools' names are trademarked, their logos are trademarked, and they tend to be extremely protective and litigious. I live in Ann Arbor, and people try to sell counterfeit U of Michigan stuff here all the time...if you even have a block M on the merchandise, they crack down.

Avoid using the school name. Try to use a more generic geographic name. Something like michigancollegesluts.com would be ok, universityofmichigansluts.com would not. Don't show the school logo, don't mention teh school name...I think nebraskacoeds.com as a good example.

When you're dealing with initials, you're in a gray area, with lsucheerleaders.com being a prime example. If they were portraying or showing scenes from a real college with the initials LSU (there are several), or using a college's logo, or maybe similar cheerleading uniforms, I think they'd be in trouble. But being about a fictitious university with those initials, I think they're relatively safe.

Most colleges have the state name. You could make inferences and that would be hard to stop right?

Iowa University can't stop Iowa College gils right ? What if there is a Iowa college though? The terms are so generic it seems like that has to be ok.
