why are people scared of root canals?

most painful part was the freezing needle. all these drugs are better than the lollipops they gave me when i was a kid :thumbsup

cold_ice 10-06-2004 02:32 PM

I don't fear them I just hate the time it takes to get it done.

brizzad 10-06-2004 02:35 PM

i've had 3, never felt anything before, during, or after

DanB 10-06-2004 02:36 PM

I fear the hole that it leaves in my pocket.

ronaldo 10-06-2004 02:36 PM

Yeah, my mom had it done and said there was nothing to it.

Wisdom teeth on the other hand are a different story, or so I've seen and heard.

I was lucky in that I was born without upper wisdom teeth.

I'm unlucky in that I'm 36 and still haven't had the lower ones out yet. They ain't getting them either unless it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. :winkwink:

wisdom teeth were cake. worst part was not being able to eat right for 3 weeks after.

Really?

Damn, if that was the case, I'd have them out tomorrow.

Everyone I've ever seen looks like they were punched in the face about 10 times. Swollen jaw and black eyes in some cases.

Other than that, I really don't mind the dentist.

My wisdom teeth my cheek puffed up a little and was bruised but it certainly didnt look like I had gone through any beatings.

Root canals are a bitch though, then again I had my first and only one (so far, knock on wood) when I was about 12.

If you want some real horror stories about dentistry among other things read "A million little pieces".

Are you kidding me?! That was one of the most painful experiences of my life!! Its the combination of everything...the needle, the sound of the drill, the poking and prying...That shit was worse than labour!

i felt the drill, made it known i could feal it. he shoved another needle in me which hurt like a bitch for a second. then i couldn't feal my mouth for another 2 and a half hours. took some goodies from the bag of tricks he gave me and i don't feal any pain at all.

hell i'm ready for another one :glugglug

CC 10-06-2004 04:41 PM

Well, maybe because it was the most painful experience of my entire life?!??!?!?! Gotta love the little teeny drill things that drill straight down into the roots over and over, yeah that feels just wonderful :eek7

Yikes, I'd be scared of the dentist that only charges $700 for that, god knows what the crown is made of and the quality of it (mine is porcelain). No thanks, I'll take my good dentist any day.

that was just for the root canal. i gotta go back on sunday to finish. went in without an appointment :)

i also don't need a crown, just a filling. the tooth is actually in decent shape, bit lucky on that.

Vitasoy 10-06-2004 05:40 PM

I don't think, I ever had one. :glugglug

my filling fell out two years ago while i was driving my bike. thought it was a pebble or something so lifted my visor and spit it out. after stopping i realized i had a hole in my tooth.

should have fixed it right there, but i let it slide. first time seeing a dentist in like 15 years. gonna get a cleaning done in a bit, then i should be good for another 15 :glugglug
