Should P e d o s get the death penalty?

I can't imagine a worse crime than rape and sexually harming children. Unlike murder where the victim got killed once, these crimes kill a victim everytime they remember what happened.

Do you think these crimes deserve the DEATH PENALTY?

fris 10-06-2004 06:29 AM

i think they should

yes for sure

Evil1 10-06-2004 06:30 AM

Removing the tool that did the crime is a much worse punishment.

polish_aristocrat 10-06-2004 06:31 AM

No, GFY would get less page views in that case.

Spunky 10-06-2004 06:31 AM

Even if the person harmed your child?

mardigras 10-06-2004 06:36 AM

Not unless there was a clause that required DNA proof to get the death penalty. There are too many cases where a child has claimed molestation out of revenge or at the prompting of one parent against the other.

Throw them into an Industrial Washing machine. Come out looking like Mc Apple Pie. :2 cents:

Do you guys agree with this?

In 1977, the Supreme Court declared in Coker v. Georgia, 433 U.S. 584 (1977) that applying the death penalty in rape cases was unconstitutional because the sentence was disproportionate to the crime.

I'd say RAPE and CHILD SEX CRIMES are PROPORTIONATE to the death penalty cuz they harm the person over and over and over again. Unlike the piece of shit that committed the crime who only has to PAY for the crime ONCE, the victim is PLAGUED by the painful memory.

Is that fair? Is that "proportionate"?

If proven beyond a reasonable doubt and found guilty with DNA, is there a reason NOT TO EXECUTE?

Goatse 10-06-2004 06:46 AM

Child molesters who abuse kids, yes.
Passive pedophiles who only jerk off at the thought of kids, no.
Rapists, yes.
Statutory rapists, absolutely not.

Yes.

DNA evidence HAS been found to be faulty for murder suspects in the past :2 cents:

Pedo's are wrong. Rape is wrong. No Question. I believe the death penality should only be used aginst someone guilty of murder in the 1st degree.

Once you start killing people for other crimes, where does it stop? Ous system of justice often finds the politically incorrect or those without the means to defend themselves guilty while the well off are able to buy their way out.

No, that's you being a fucking idiot. Death > bad memory.

Besides, while the rapist/molester is responsible for the actual event, society is actually responsible for much of the psychological distress. What happened is obviously a traumatic event (just like, for instance, "normal" violence), but society handles it by telling the victim over and over her/his "innocence has been lost", "purity has been violated" etc., thus greatly increasing the psychological damage.

The truth is that rape and such are rather comparable to violent kidnappings - horrendous, traumatic events, but most definitely not worse than death.

Society should start taking a more helpful stance towards victims, and a more realistic one towards sex offenders (they should only be released if the chance of recidivating is virtually non-existent, which in most cases comes down to life in prison).

I think they should have their genitals and hands amputated. Child molestation is the most horrendous crime in my opinion.

The molestation never stops. Every time they have a nightmare or a flashback, it's like they've been molested all over again. They can smell the sick bastard. They can feel his touch.

Even when someone has gotten the help they need, it never really ends. It's not something you can ever truly heal from. I have a very personal interest in the subject. Someone very close to me was molested by her step father for years when she was young. She saw various shrinks and made very little progress. She confided in me over a period of a couple of years and we made some real progress. But sadly, most victims don't find someone they can trust and never get the help they so desperately need.

Pro-active steps need to be taken to prevent child molestation. So many of the perpetrators were themselves abused. I honestly think that given the support they need after the abuse occurs, they wouldn't have grown up and continued the cycle. But then again, most victims never speak out and most perpetrators are never caught.

The person that i mentioned is doing really well now. She's got her life on track and she rarely has flashbacks and panic attacks, but it does happen from time to time, and it always will.

Mutilate the bastards.

bangman 10-06-2004 07:29 AM

Why aren't there any more public executions?
It would do wonders for all the would-be molesters out there if they were to see a convicted molester hung in the center of town.

I'm not one for studying history, but back when public executions did occur, i'm sure that there was a lot less crime back then because of this.

I think comparing something like rape or molestation to something like a kidnapping is way off base. What do you base that statement on? I mean, both will obviously suffer from something like post traumatic stress disorder, but i think the psychological problems associated with sex crime victims is far greater. The feelings of impurity, loss of innocence and even worse, the feelings of guilt, compound the grief, stress, and trauma. I think this is extremely true in cases of long term sexual abuse.

I get what you're saying about society's attitude towards victims, but i think you're overestimating the impact. First and foremost, the way they feel is all in their own head and not a damn thing anyone else says will change that. Society could be as helpful as possible, but these people would still feel dirty and unclean. The girl i mentioned.. It's literally been years, and she has made so much progress, but she still feels guilty, even though she sees why logically, she she shouldn't. She still feels like she has lost her innocence and is impure, despite my constant reassurance to the contrary. I mean, it's getting better, and i'm getting through, but this stuff takes years.
