21" Monitor

Best business advise I can ever give someone.

polish_aristocrat 10-06-2004 02:37 AM

Isn't 19' LCD enough?

strobi 10-06-2004 02:38 AM

isn't 21" too big? 19 is more than big enough for me.. maybe the widescreen 21?

TommyM 10-06-2004 02:38 AM

17" is enough for me ;)

Magg 10-06-2004 02:40 AM

21" is AWESOME. Its so hard getting used to my 17" monitor display every time i use my 21" for over an hour

mkx 10-06-2004 02:48 AM

19's do the job but 21's do the job better and are worth the investment. Especially good for someone like me who does 10 things at once with no less than 50 windows opened at all times

Satisfaction 10-06-2004 03:13 AM

yeh im on a 19inch... i think its big enough...

Platinumpimp 10-06-2004 03:15 AM

Each to his own I guess, but I prefer my 17" flat.

Nicky 10-06-2004 03:38 AM

yea I prefer my 18" ´TFT........

bjjb 10-06-2004 05:16 AM

Damn I thought my 13 inch monochrome monitor was enuff. Guess its time to upgrade :thumbsup

Wiggles 10-06-2004 05:18 AM

21' is too big, the 19' monitors are perfect size.

TurboTrucker 10-06-2004 05:31 AM

I'm on 19 crt, imo 21 would be much nicer.

The 21' must be high quality lsd otherwise it may get blurry. I am using 1600 x 1200 resolution and the monitor about 3 feet away from me. Can see everything in a whole new way

mkx 10-06-2004 05:39 AM

I bought my samsung 213T from a reputable electronics store with all intensions on living in luxery for 2 weeks and then returning it the same day the money back gaurantee expired. It was the most expensive one in the store and definately not something my budget could afford. Well I accidently missed the return date and got stuck with it. Not many regrets as the extra multitasked work I can get done with this monitor is starting to be worth it and I have only had it a few months. Like I mentioned, if your the type of guy with 50 windows open doing many things on your computer at once, a 21" lcd is for you.

Basic_man 10-06-2004 05:43 AM

I saw at Futureshop (Bestbuy) a Samsung 21" LDC.. It was like 2000$ CAD... It still doesn't worth it on the LCD :warning

calmlikeabomb 10-06-2004 05:46 AM

2x15in lcd here.

mkx 10-06-2004 05:47 AM

Thats the one I got, cost me more than any other peice of machinery I own, maybe even double any other peice of machinery I own, but I think it was worth it. I haven't even used the tilt option yet

Future shop sucks, I bought a crappy computer from them and I opened the box up to back up my old computers harddrive and then I lost the single hand twisting screw that holds the computer box together and when I tried to return it because of its crapness (never buy a compaq), they said they cannot accept it because the box was opened (i could have simply screwed it back in). There was no seal, warning, or anything preventing the box from being opened and its obvious that people like to add upgraded components to their computer and you have to open the box to do it. I don't even keep the box on my computer any more, thats how much i access it.

I just left the computer there and called the manger the next day and after 2 weeks I eventually got a refund - a 25% restocking fee. To bad I paid cash :(

Never buy a computer from future shop, not only because of their service and pushy sales people but because their computer sucks. Get one custom made or get a friend to recommend a good package on eBay

Mr. Mike 10-06-2004 06:12 AM

8 foot widescreen projection :thumbsup :thumbsup

But I only use that when Im laying in bed. Bulb is too expensive.

slackologist 10-06-2004 06:41 AM

The 22" IBM thinkvision is a good buy for flat CRT - under $600. Excellent quality picture.

Herb Kornfield 10-06-2004 07:00 AM

21 aint shit...

I use the Jumbotron at the Linkin Finanical field in Philly for my daily work.

40 feet x 30 feet.

Beat that biatches.

directfiesta 10-06-2004 07:03 AM

Just replaced my Dell 21" CRT by a Benq 19" LCD : same working surface, but much clearer.
Also replaced the 17" Viewsonic CRT by a 15" KDS with speakers ( editing unit ).
Clears up the office.
:thumbsup

Here's my monitor, it kicks ass !! You have to get used to the 1200X1600 resolution due to it's aspect ratio.

Where can I get some of this high quality LSD? :winkwink:

I'm on a 17 I believe, but I have been searching for a 21 for about a week now. So far I found some nice CRTs that aren't so exepensive. I'm proably going to get it soon :)

scoreman 10-06-2004 07:46 AM

nice laptop you've got there!

1600 x 1200 is insane. I prefer Chowda's setup. 2x19 LCD.

sirrobin 10-06-2004 09:29 AM

whatever your setup - dual monitors is the way to go

phpslave 10-06-2004 09:31 AM

i have a 22" but viewable it's not really any bigger than a 21", but i've been programing on 21+ for years now. Nothing else does.

When your trying to see the most code on a screen (at one time) dual monitors isn't really the way to go, for a programmer. Not unless you can get dual 21" monitors.

jact 10-06-2004 09:32 AM

I'm running dual Samsung 213T's at 1600x1200 resultion, I was running dual 21" Sony Trinitron CRT's before. I'm much happier with the dual LCD for obvious reasons. However, I need a dual digital DVI card, the secondary monitor doesn't match the primary for color at all because it's analog. But it still looks great.

Gynecologist 10-06-2004 09:33 AM

My GF says that 6.5 inches does the job.

wyldblyss 10-06-2004 09:33 AM

Bah, laptop all the way for me lately. I like being able to move around

chupachups 10-06-2004 09:43 AM

I´ve just bought 3x21" Eizos - they rock!

Raf1 10-06-2004 09:57 AM

I have a 19" IIYAMA HM903DTA on my personal computer and it's great. 21" screens are a bit too big for me

21" CRT and 19" lcd are about the same. The LCD is about ."5 smaller (CRT's measure the plastic too and LCD's only measure the screen).

I have a 21" CRT and I 19" LCD. CRT's look better but I didnt have room on my desk for another CRT so I did this and I like it a lot. Although I like LCD's at a higher rez so it looks kinda crazy.

Mike Panic 10-06-2004 11:04 AM

i got an off-lease 21" sun crt (sony fd trinitron tube) from ebay for around $300 shipped - granted it does weigh 90lbs - but its the best thing ever!

i have no plans to switch to lcd anytime soon... i need the clarity that the crt offers for high end digital photo editing - i would like to get a second one at some point though

I have two of those sitting on the floor over there *points somewhere that you can't see*. They're good, but the digital LCD is better IMO. A regular analog LCD sucks ass for digital photo editing though, I agree.

pornguy 10-06-2004 11:36 AM

MAC has a really nice 30inc that will work with both systems. Nice looking screen also, but it is like 4k.

Mike Panic 10-06-2004 11:41 AM

jact - im not sure i agree w/ you - paired up w/ a quality video card... crt's are near impossible to beat - especially when color correcting them.

i have work printed by a few high end local labs - they all use crt's too

Can I have them? I'll buy a new desk just to accomodate them.

KingAsher 10-06-2004 12:15 PM

Im pretty content with my 17" G4 laptop, does the job right. Im just waiting for the new G5 laptop to come out. Its gonna be intense! Anyone know when it comes out?
