Modem Speed?

Got a new router..it seems to be going pretty quick :)

2004-10-05 22:14:51 EST: 523 / 580
Your download speed : 536493 bps, or 523 kbps.
A 65.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 594916 bps, or 580 kbps.

Is this O.K?

How much does a computer effect the speed of a cable connection?

sickkittens 10-05-2004 07:26 PM

i just tested my cable connection now...

Communications 1.3 megabits per second
Storage 161.3 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 6.3 seconds

Usually it's around 2-2.5MB/sec.

Spunky 10-05-2004 07:27 PM

It doesn't really..I only have a 800 p3

My ISP offers up to 5MB/sec. yet I only get around 2. They mentioned something about certain computers help faster connections but I didn't get the details.

woj 10-05-2004 07:31 PM

.5mbit per sec isn't THAT fast...

Magg 10-05-2004 07:35 PM

btw, pretty slow speed for broadband

I get 300-400KBps download and 80KBps upload

sickkittens 10-05-2004 07:43 PM

If anyone cares, you can check your speed out here:

Mr Exotic 10-05-2004 08:17 PM

3.4 megabits per second

Communications 3.4 megabits per second
Storage 410.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.5 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

It doesn't. The two exceptions would be
1) If you
had a simplex network card that could only
send or recieve at any given time as opposed
to uploading and downloading simultaneously.
That wouldn't make much difference.
The lights on your router may tell you if it's
connected as simplex or duplex.

2) If you had a super fast connection, over 50Mbs,
you'd want a fast bus mastering network card.
