Excatly how does a rebill work?

Lets say John Doe signs up to these 3-days trials to XX.XX. Will a rebill come after the 3-day period is over or...?

I think so.

8-1 horny guy #1 signs up for three day trial. Tells himself to go cancel the membership when he's done looking.
8-4 horny guy #1 has not had a chance to see everything, because AP is this program like Disney World - you just can't ever really see it all, so he thinks, "ok - I'll keep it for just one month."
9-4 horny guy #1 has forgotten the whole rebill thing, and possibly has found something else to fascinate him. (surfers have the attention span of a four-year-old)
12-4 horny guy #1 finally gets around to his quarterly checkbook balancing task 'cuz he overdrew and bounced a check. Wonders who the hell iBill is - and why he is paying every month. After wracking his brain (and not getting his checkbook balanced again) he figures it out and either cancels his membership [or hopefully repeats the cycle by going back to AP and remembering how cool it is, plus there's new stuff]
1-4-02 horny guy #1's cancelled membership gets charged one last time.

At least I think that's how it goes. I know I bought a membership just to see what the hell I was selling. Bought it a while ago, but still haven't cancelled it because I am horny guy #2. AP is the coolest site of all time, plus you can get into voyeur dorm and some other cool places.

Unfortunately an awful lot of those 8-1s go like this now:

What also might happen is:
Hornyguy signs up for a trial, jerked off so hard he passed out..Wakes up 3 days later and forgets about the site. After a month he checks his papers and noticed a payment by Ibill (for instance). Ibill??? WTF is an Ibill. Runs to his bank, says he never paid Ibill for anything and makes a fucking chargeback.

I think it goes along the line of porn magazines - the dude may buy one every couple of months -$5- scans through it and puts with the others/in the bin then, when he sees another babe he likes the look of - goes and buys that one.
I'd be very interested in the subscription figures for the likes of playboy/hustler et al and compare them with their monthly sales figures.

I think alot of surfers at this point are repeat joins, be it good ones or bandwidth wasting jerkoffs like the ones I mentioned above.

I also think they probably have friends that clue them in to doing this as well.

My suspicion is that it's just like heisting the candy out of the honor box without putting the fifty cents in, the first time they do it, they are bothered by it but after that they just don't care.

The sad part of this type of cancel is that it doesn't make one bit of difference what you put in the members area, no amount of individuality or quantity or quality is going to make a difference.

Bad thing for the resellers is that this type of surfer encourages programs like active member payouts since the sponsors are pushed to a point where they don't really have a choice.

Planet Bob -- If you've got the time to collect instead of wanting the cash upfront, recurring has the potential to make you about 20% more a join and the one good thing recurring does for you during slow times is give you a cushion of income to fall back on since you aren't relying solely on per join money. (Of course you should also have some per click, per email and avs stuff in your mix too!!!)

From what I have gathered, horny guy #1 has figured out that if he has a porn budget lets say of around $100 a month he can either signup for 3-4 premium sites that cost $25-$35 to join or he can sign up for 25-50 cheap $1.95-$3.95 trials and keep cancelling them like clockwork. The second option would give him a new fresh site everyday and seems to be catching on quite a bit lately. Now maybe it's time to start getting more creative with ideas on making that "Clockwork Canceller" want to stay at least one day longer than the trial time. If you can get him to do that then I think the possibility of him forgetting about the next month's rebill would greatly increase. Now what would be cool is for Lensman to setup a "console hell" affiliate program with a url something like http://www.gofuckyourself.com/you_cancelling/bastard/ so I could have somewhere nice to send the surfers that cancel within an hour or two of signing up...lol

I try to keep my recurring around a certain dollar figure a month. Once it's there, you adjust your promotion of that sponsor so that you maintain that dollar amount, and push your per signup sponsors It's nice to know you are going to have checks in the mailbox regardless of what happens with your per signup sponsors.

The most important thing is if the tour looks good and you think you can sell it, sign up for the partner program THEN sign up for a membership to that site and check out the inside for

1. Site design and content, quality content or stuff you've seen everywhere. How often are updates done if at all. Look at it like you were Horny Guy #1. Is it enough to keep you coming back or can you pretty much see everything in one or two visits.

2. Look for traffic leaks. You would be surprised at some of the partner programs. They heavily advertise to other membership sites on the inside of their site. Those surfers are pretty much guaranteed not to hang around to long.

If you are getting the signups but they are not renewing their memberships, move on to another sponsor. Pretty soon you will find the ones that work best for you. I have recurring memberships that are nearly two years old and many that over a year old.

I hope that answered your question Planet Bob. It looked like you were going to stay away from them and that would be a mistake. It will probably take two or three months depending on how hard you work at it to build a nice $2000+/mo recurring base.

Hmmmm, online porn is not supposed to be a budgeted expense like the rent or the car payment.

Impulse purchases are just that and if people start thinking of them differently that could mean that the entire model has to change and fast.

I actually budget for naked women, and it's a very expensive habit.

Thx for the input and yes - building a base of income would be optimal but since this is my first try at "rebilling" (how could u tell lens http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif) i kinda freaked when only 1/4 made it to rebills. Every member have to stay apx 10 months in order for rebilling to be profitable... ( compared to per-signups)
