This is fucking RIDICULOUS...
I applied for a birth certificate for our baby so we could travel and get her SIN number etc, and I filled out the application, sent in payment, etc. They charged me, but sent a new application sayign that I had to have it signed by a guarantor that i've known for at least two years and listed off a bunch of acceptable occupations for guarantors... Now how the hell am I supposed to find anyone that fits that bill when I just moved here? I'm not driving three hours to get a signature, and I'm not getting on a plane to fly out west. How stupid is this? I am going to so call and scream at someone tomorrow.
Just figured I'd share my angst. |
Fax?

just lie, they'll never know ;)

Terrible, i know how it is in Canada when it comes to paperwork from the government.
but thats what you get in a socialist country, when technically nobody is in power, and nobody cares whos in power. Status Quo I love Canada |
doing anything with passports etc is such a huge headache now. ugh.

Lady M, I just went thru all this shit myself. I just got my chiropractor to sign for me although he hasn't quite known me for 2 years shhhhhhh!
It's a real pain in the ass, but trust me it's better than getting a passport renewed LOL! I just had to go through that shit today! DH P.S. You might want to contact your local MP about this, he/she might be able to help. |

I don't get it. So you guys don't automatically get birth certificates for your kids there?
Here, someone comes to the hospital room before you ever go home with the baby and gets all the info. Then, in a few weeks it arrives in the mail. You used to have to go to the social security office and apply for the baby's ssn right after it was born, and then they sent that to you in the mail. All you needed was the birthcertificate to apply, though. The hospital even gave you a temporary one to take home with you and use until the official one came in the mail. Now, you don't even have to do that. They do the ssn stuff at the hospital when they do the birth certificate and both come in the mail. |
I had my accountant do it when I needed a passport and he had only known me for like 6-9 months at the time.

Same thing when you get a passport, you need a "professional" to do it.
|
Why do you have to know someone and get their signature to get a birth certificate for your baby? :eek7

You should learn more about your neighbors. We're capitalists and we've kicked ass in plenty of wars, not to mention fighting is an accepted part of the game in our national pass time. |
It seems that nothings for free nowadays. we have to go thru allthe hustle and bustle of life, and it starts from birth.

I'm having the same problem with my passport. I'm supposed to name 2 people who have known me for 2 years or more, plus the attestation of someone who is a doctor, lawyer, etc. I'm a fucking recluse, I don't know anyone! So now I have to go to court and swear under oath that I'm a decent guy, and the judge will decide whether or not to issue a passport. It's a farce.
|
send it to someone you know via Fed Ex overnite. They sign it and send it back.
Bingo :) |

LadyM - If you can't get it signed by a lawyer, accountant, priest - I think you can get it signed by a commissioner of oaths - try the bank where you opened your accounts - the manager should be able to sign that for you, if not, City Hall or the burrough office should have a commissioner of oaths to sign that for you.

Interesting that you dont get an application for a social security card for your child in the hospital. It sure makes life less complicated.
