Search Engine Questions

I am so lost when it comes to understanding Search Engines. I do get some traffic, but it's taken like 2 years for my pages to start showing up. Ive been making doorway pages, submitting my sites about once a month, trying to use proper meta tags with unique kewords. However, I dont get nearly the amount of traffic from the search engines as I wish I could.

Anybody want to take a stab at these questions?

1)Will the search engines pickup and spider html files within a sites directory...even if there is no link to those html files or directory from an outside page?

2) I hear Meta Tags are not that important any more...and I should focus more on the TITLE tag instead. Is this true?

3) How many doorway pages do you use per site

4) How often do you submit your site to the search engines?

5) Do you submit only your main URL (http://www.yoursite.com) or do you submit your galleries, and everything else?

Does anybody know of a good resource site for understanding how Search Engines work?

Thanks http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

Basically, the Golden Days for SE are over. It's hard to list new sites, let alone to pull new traffic. There used to be ways to increase their hits, like doorway pages, but they won't make a big difference these days. Just try to make as many sites as possible, add meta tags, submit them to TGP's, link sites etc (if appropriate). The more people linking to you, the better your site will be rated. And the sooner those spiders will find you.

I agree with Mango

Only google and fast(aka alltheweb/lycos) regularly crawl and list pages in a logical fashion.

1)No, if there is no link at all

2)Yes

3)Doorways can be used, but are not necessary - I do not use doorways perse

4)Never - Google will only list your site if there are other links pointing to it. I have never had a problem with them finding and listing my sites. If you have a site up by the begining of the month - it should be listed later that month (~27th or so)

5) Don't submit anything, but link your pages together.

If you'd like to learn more about google - I wrote this page that should help you understand PageRank better (there are links on it to papers written by Page and Brin [Google Creators]):

I will be updating it soon with a FAQ on PageRank as there is so much disinformation out there...

Search engines are very hard@!
Need top listings? You've got to pay!, otherwise no top listing!

Although they verify a lot of surfers, targeted surfers

hi there,

too bad i can only confirm that the glorious days of se are over. In the ancient times of the internet (like 3 years ago) i ran a small x rated website with no more then a few banners and a couple of thousand visitors a month. I had forgotten about it till a few months ago when i started checking stats. It turned out that it had been able to receive several 100s of se visitors a day. Although it doesn´t sound much this traffic is absolutely the best!
I earned quitte a nice buck with it. So i decided (like you) to make doorway pages but they never became a success. Clue of all this b/s? The older your website is the higher it gets in the SE and the more traffic you get.

Submitting to search engines with a completely new website and domain is useless....

"Submitting to search engines with a completely new website and domain is useless...."

While it is true that engines such as Altavista give points for age - Google does not (or if they do it is very small).

Anyone can get any domain listed with Google.

I would like to step in here and dispel many of the myths that have been thrown out.

A) SE days are not a thing of the past, everyone still uses SE to find what they want. Period. Yes you might have to spend a couple of bucks, but if you do it right the money that you spend will come back 10 fold. To give you an example. I have one site that is listed on Yahoo, yes it costs almost $600 to get listed there, but this site has made me $1855 in the last 3 1/2 months at maxcash. And that is going thru the summer slump, if I hold at the numbers I'm getting right now, I will make around $7K for the year. That's $600 for the SE listing, $50 in content, and around $20 a month in hosting.

B) "Submitting to search engines with a completely new website and domain is useless...."

Oh so that is why I have such good luck with my new domains http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif I just purchased hchosting.com to do a test on a new software that helps with SE placement, so that I could see how fast it could really get you up in the engines, and how fast I could get traffic coming into a new website. Well the stats show that I have had over 117 visitors in less than 30 days. Now that does not seem like a lot maybe, but they are getting to me by searching for "adult web hosting" so they are highly targeted traffic which is exactly what I want. I'm getting ready to do a test of a Pay site to see how quickly it can get listed, and the level of traffic that it gets, I will report back to you as soon as I get the numbers coming in.

To answer your ??'s

1) Nope

2) focus on the entire page, title, meta tags, alt image tags, page text must have some weight to it. It all is important.

3) How many keyword sets do you want to focus on ?? We normally focus the site on 2 set's of keywords per doorway, and we create sub domains for all of our doorway pages i.e. www.hotsex.com would have analsex.hotsex.com, hardcore.hotsex.com, dildos.hotsex.com all of which would be focusing on a keyword set, but all point to the same interior set of pages.

4) Depends, each SE has different rules, but every 7 days is a pretty good rule of thumb.

5) Go for sub-domains, they give you an additional keyword hit on many of the SE since it is in the domain URL, make's the url nice and short also, no more long directory URL's
