Mainstream Advertising Online is really fucked up
really overpriced
AOL banners 10,000,000 impressions approx 0.5% clickthru (50,000 hits) $30,000 |
Yep, and your ROI will be so pitiful it will make you want to jump off a bridge.
|
I wonder what percentage of that inventory is actually sold.

Well worth it, they got traffic profiles to a science.

aol traffic is the best, but i cant see many programs justifying such cost per click. These are price range for drugs (which i bet not allowed), casino (same case), credit cards, loans, mortgages and since you pay per impression good luck to get such CTR.
|
Is this run of network pricing or specific for certain types of traffic?

wow, that seems very overpriced. damn.
|
You're probably going to pay about $12CPM for targetted areas of the network :)
|
I'd be all over that deal with casino ads but they don't allow them.

Certain targeted traffic still goes for $40-$55 CPM on some networks.... Insane.
|
AOL traffic is pure damn gold for adult. No idea about mainstream though.

you got 50,000 clicks say your product or service converts at 1:250 thats 200 sales Since you paid $30,000 for the traffic you have to make at least 250 dollars profit per sale JUST TO BREAK EVEN I think ill pass |

Hard to make a profit I'd say.
But AOL users are overal not too bright/retarded so you can sell them about anything you want. |
and you'll do good Escortbiz :)
|
that's 0.60 per click and you can get more clicks if your banner is good, plus aol surfers are american sheeps complusive buyers
i dont see where is the problem :) |

Selling cars, Houses, Mortgages, Finance, Computers, Video Games, Health Insurance etc... The whole world is not about porn. Porn should know its place in the world. Its a chump change game. |

Please get real my main business is mainstream, yeah I know some things have decent margins but not everything |
Mainstream Advertising ROCKS!!!
Especially when you're on the selling end. :Graucho The supply of advertisers is endless. :) |
Those high rates are the legacy of Bob Pittman. He was the guy who managed to make AOL unbearably profitable on a individual service basis.
I remember how much vendors complained when he launched their CPM at outrageous prices. He knew he had a "captive" market. A glass eye, but a laser sight, that guy. |

Jesus am I ever in the wrong side of the advertising biz ;)

Must be the price breaks.
I am sure the visitors are not all sold out and never will be:) AOL can prolly have all the "Slots" they want. Ya can bet they got a system that resolves how many slots they can offer on a monthly weekly basis all generated by algorythm's in click throughs to impressions. |

Those early rates were real moneymakers. |
You would need alot of preparation to do before you can make this work with adult. But hey, if they sell 1 house because of this the 30K$ is well spend:thumbsup

Not all advertising is about making an immediate sale. Companies buy advertising just to build their brand.

Look I have success in mainstream but sometimes things just dont make sense for my product thats it |

Spot the people in this thread who dont know the value of BRANDING a product on a well-known, multi-million user platform :2 cents:

That advertising is probably perfect for the likes of GM, Sony, AIG, TV networks, production companies, etc. But for website companies, no it's not.
