My guess is around 30-40% is sold and the rest is CPA. But who knows, AOL has a big ad department.

aol traffic is the best, but i cant see many programs justifying such cost per click. These are price range for drugs (which i bet not allowed), casino (same case), credit cards, loans, mortgages and since you pay per impression good luck to get such CTR.

Is this run of network pricing or specific for certain types of traffic?

You're probably going to pay about $12CPM for targetted areas of the network :)

I'd be all over that deal with casino ads but they don't allow them.

Back in the day $25 CPM for run of network ads wasn't uncommon. Damn times have changed.

Certain targeted traffic still goes for $40-$55 CPM on some networks.... Insane.

AOL traffic is pure damn gold for adult. No idea about mainstream though.

Those high rates are the legacy of Bob Pittman. He was the guy who managed to make AOL unbearably profitable on a individual service basis.

I remember how much vendors complained when he launched their CPM at outrageous prices. He knew he had a "captive" market.

AOL can prolly have all the "Slots" they want. Ya can bet they got a system that resolves how many slots they can offer on a monthly weekly basis all generated by algorythm's in click throughs to impressions.

When he ran MTV he knocked the rates up to. I used to buy spots for under $1 K, then they went to $2K, then $3k, and up and up.

Those early rates were real moneymakers.

You would need alot of preparation to do before you can make this work with adult. But hey, if they sell 1 house because of this the 30K$ is well spend:thumbsup

That advertising is probably perfect for the likes of GM, Sony, AIG, TV networks, production companies, etc. But for website companies, no it's not.
