Do you choose business relations based on language?

If people speak English really badly ( example ), does it make you less inclined to do business with them? It often seems like people posting in broken English don't get taken seriously on the boards, and I'm wondering if this has any significant business effects.

yea it makes it seem kinda shady to me if they do not know english very well. I understand that english is not everyones native language, but when you are doing business it should at least be typed out nice and presentable.

Its kinda hard to do good biz if you dont understand each other......but ive made some biz with very poor speaking english guys and its been ok......

Engrish? :glugglug

If I understand what the guy is talking about, then spelling or grammar mistakes aren't an issue.

english is considered as a universal language, we must understand this better so we can communicate well especially in business where lots of money is involved.:)

It only does for me because I might not be able to communicate effectively with the person which might result in misunderstandings so it makes me alittle more apprehensive.

Yes.

Communication is key to good business. If you can't properly communicate with me then I would rather not take the chance of a fucked up business transaction.

wdsguy, same here. Unless it's close to impossible to communicate I don't have any problem

We have formed some good to great working relationships with people whose first language isn't English.

But then being in the word business puts us in touch with a lot of these people.

pimplink 10-05-2004 02:12 AM

yes, definitely. Bad spelling or grammar, however unfair, makes people look like illiterate morons. I won't do business with them unless I have very good reasons to.

Pornopat 10-05-2004 02:34 AM

Being able to underatnd each other is very important in biz.
But there also seem to be a lot of anal persons out there who attack people on the use of wrong grammar or the wrong way a sentence is structured. I think they secretely think that people that dont have the english language as a first language are inferior to the ones that do. I try to remember these people cause I dont want to do biz with biggots like this. I dont trust them and they might fuck me over just because of the use of English. They may not care for my business but some of the biggest names in this industry dont have English as a first language. They might just feel the same way I do about these people...:2 cents:

I don't do business with people whose native language isn't finnish.
