BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Two bombs have exploded in central Baghdad, with Iraqi authorities reporting many casualties.
In one incident, the U.S. military said a car bomb was detonated outside the southern gate to the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad.
Video from the scene showed a white SUV in flames and heavy damage to a number of surrounding vehicles.
An official from Yarmouk Hospital reported many casualties and the U.S. military is investigating the attack.
Black smoke from the second blast could be seen from the roof of the Palestine Hotel, the headquarters for CNN's Baghdad bureau.
