JOGGERS i have a question

i was never a consistant runner. i used to run 4 times a week for a few months at a time but then i would stop alltogether. now its been over 2 years since i have gone running.

at one time was doing 3 miles in 23 minutes, but i could not run more than 4 miles.

what can i do to get myself to run 6 miles at a time? and whats a decent time per mile?

4 min per mile is pretty good... just start off slow and go further every day.

then go rowing at the gym, u need to build up ur cardio again

thats the biggest problem for me is finding time for the gym, plus i do not like doing monotonous excerises.

jogging, on the other hand was great for stress relief for me, just because i would zone out while running.

ok, so 4 minute miles is what i have to aim for then. thats gonna be pretty damn hard to do. thats 6 miles in 24 minutes, wow. most likely i'll be able to get to 5 minute miles. i hope

thats your problem. you need to pace yourself. decent time doesnt matter if you're just starting. just do 6 miles then from there try and improve your time

one foot in front of the other... set goals.. stick to them , sometimes listening to music helps pass the time running.

Be consistent.
Start of running slowly and do small distances, once you're comfortable with the distance you and can do it faster make your route longer and so forth. Always keep steady pace, whatch how you breathe.

Do not try to out-run yourself otherwise you might do more damage to your heart than good.

Hey Izz,

I'm starting back up myself. Just start slow. It sucks in the beginning but do it everyday.

sickkittens 10-03-2004 05:21 PM

Eventually I'll do 3-4 miles twice a day and then it'll get easy. Start now before the weather gets cold by the way. :2 cents:

I see you joggers at 6am on my way home from a party the night before. One of these days I'm going to pop the curb and run your "Chariots Of Fire" Ass Over :1orglaugh

you need to hire a hot trainer

MrIzzz 10-03-2004 05:30 PM

- mandy i would love to see that vid:thumbsup

-holograph, i hear ya about pacing myself

- sickkittens, i play soccer every week so i'm in decent shape, but i wanna get better. i dont think i would be able to go twice a day but once is good for me. and i dont mind running in the cold

-mahoney, lmfaooooooo, dude i could never wake up at 6 am just to run. i always preferred running after the sun went down

-korzon, if i hired a hot trainer i'd end up trying to bang her instead of training with her:1orglaugh

If you play soccer, you're already in good shape, but I would still consider running on a treadmill for the first little while. Treadmills have a bit of give that lessen the impact on your joints. A lot of people push themselves too hard at the beginning & end up blowing out their knee or ankle.

Do you play indoor? I've played outdoor since I was a kid, but this is the first year I'm playing indoor. Can't wait!

Year round isn't a possibility up here. :(

I have played in the snow before, but it makes for some wicked bruises. lol

tonkagunner 10-03-2004 06:44 PM

Just run to a place 3miles and back.

true, the only times we dont play are when the field is really covered bad in snow. but here, that snow usualyy melts after a few days

just try every time you jog to go a bit further, even if it's only a bit, even if you have to jog slow.. if you do that every time you'll gradually improve

or you could try jogging slower to ensure you last more than 6 Miles, then gradually increase the speed of your run, even if it's by 30 seconds each time you jog..

tonkagunner 10-03-2004 10:27 PM

I used to jog around 6miles a day. It was usually around 50minutes or so to do.
