Best Comedy Ever

Best Comedy Ever

I think the best comedy ever made was Cheers. I say that as I see the repeats (on UK's CH4) all the time. And they still seem very funny.

Often other comedies do not seem as good after a few shows.

Not sure if you have seen the Goodies (it was a UK show in the 70's) but I thought it was so mad it was cool.

eroswebmaster 10-03-2004 03:36 PM

Cheers was good...I think Seinfeld and All In The Family are probably the top 2.

Some people will say MASH..while it was good..I got tired of the old vaudevill type humor Alan Alda interjected into every episode..it got real old.

eroswebmaster 10-03-2004 03:38 PM

All In The Family was probably one of the most progressive shows on TV ever.

Most of the things said and done now that are considered taboo..were done even back then in the early to mid 70's.

You couldn't write that show today. No network would allow it...a racist you loved to hate...but deep down you knew had the "heart of gold."

chupachups 10-03-2004 03:39 PM

Seinfeld and Simpsons, hands down!

AnalProbe 10-03-2004 03:48 PM

Monty Python - ok. Not great
The Young Ones - yes. One of the best.
Bottom - a spin off from the young ones, but very cool.
Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em - not bad.

Others:
Blackadder (all) - loved a lot.
Phoenix Nights - cool
Absolutely Fabulous - cool
Benny Hill - cool
Chelmsford 123 - cool

USA:
ALF - cool, but Sky took it over and I never saw any more of it.
Fresh Prince Of Bell Air - this is still very cool.

Priceless.

The sad thing is that Caroll, just like Bill Cosby, lost a son.

Nobody deserves that, I know, but I get contradictive emotions thinking about their loss and humorous personality at once.

mardigras 10-03-2004 04:18 PM

Every one should see The Young Ones at least once:thumbsup

Of current comedies I like "Everybody Loves Raymond" and it is guaranteed to go into my list of best ever.

I like slap-sticky comedy but would have to think long and hard to pick a favorite ever so here's some of my most favorites (no particular order)

(of course) The Young Ones
Are You Being Served
The Bob Newhart Show
Mr. Bean
Keeping Up Appearances
All of Lucy's series
Gilligan's Island
The Honeymooners
3rd Rock from the Sun
The Drew Carey Show

These weren't sitcoms, but some of my most favorite comedy series

Benny Hill
The Carol Burnette show
Who's Line is it Anyway
An Evening at the Improv
Tracy Ullman
Candid Camera

Maybe it's been too long since I've seen it. I remember always getting a kick out of Hyacinth.

Cheers and Seinfeld. Now, the Daily Show, although it's a different category by itself.

Simpsons is a classic. Futurama was also great. But I think right now, South Park is the cutting edge.

evanmorgan 10-04-2004 12:56 AM

from uk

Fawlty Towers - didnt make a bad episode, brilliant

Phoenix Nights - recently bought the box set and it aint as good as i thought, some great bits though

Red Dwarf - THE BEST, no doubt about it, -series 7 its the best comedy ever

And from what ive seen Monty Python is brilliant as well

from us

Ive always liked south park and watching old episodes of cheers, they are good.

Oh hell yes.

Fawlty Towers
The Simpsons
Red Dwarf
Arrested Development
Keeping Up Appearances
Yes Minister

Arrested Development is pretty recent, but goddamn, that shit cracks me up. Not many shows can literally make me laugh out loud. And i'm a huge fan of Yes Minister. The best political satire comedy of all time in my opinion.

I love the Young Ones, that show was hilarious, especially the skit on The Chronicles of Narnia haha

Wiggles 10-04-2004 06:08 AM

Each generation has a different view, I hated Mash for one, but southpark is brilliant, the simpsons has its moments but still has alot of dumb stuff, Family Guy is taking a larger audeicne now as well. Hard to say what really is best.

Spin City before Charlie Sheen was one of the best shows on the air at the time. I like smart comedy but once Fox left it got to the point where it was unwatchable.

DVTimes 10-08-2004 04:27 AM

The Phil Silvers Show

One of the best is:
Episode
The Court Martial

Review
After speeding up their induction, the soldiers at Fort Bazter find they now have a very odd colleague - Private Speakup. They suspect Bilko is up to no good and order a court martial.

Cast List
Phil Silvers, Fred Gwynne, Harvey Lembeck

Danny_C 10-08-2004 06:36 AM

Upright Citizens Brigade and Mr. Show... hands down. And Ali G. Shit, and Chapelle's Show.

gornyhuy 10-08-2004 06:39 AM

ExtremeRobyn 10-08-2004 06:48 AM
