Computer Repair People...Question Please.
My sister's computer just started acting up.
I recently installed a new video card and ram for her, but have taken those out and the issue continues. What happens is the Windows XP starts to load up and then a blue screen hits *it disappears too fast can't read the error* and just restarts the computer...it does this over and over. It won't allow me to start in safe mode either. I asked if she or her daughters have installed SP2 but they say no. I've even flashed CMOS this has not helped...any ideas what it could be? Bad board..CPU? Or maybe the registry is fucked up..or Virus? |
Sometimes software changes will mess up windows, you could try booting from the XP CD and doing a re-installation. It'll keep the old stuff on there but not any XP update stuff.
That shit happened to me when I put a new motherboard in, drove me fucking nuts. |

I'd rather just do a complete quick reformat for her...I'm thinking it would probably resolve the issue immediately. |
It looks like she have SP2 installed.
I did read she said no to that question, but i have read about problems like that after a SP2 install. |

They download a lot of stuff then claim they didn't. I go and clean off their computer and 1 day later there are more toolbars installed...etc..etc...I don't know why they can't figure it out yet. I tell them to use nothing but mozilla...I tell them to quit reading those stupid ass forwarding emails from their friends..but they don't listen. |
Virus = error in RPC will make the pc start over and over again.

Could be a number of things. OS or Hardware would be my bets though.
Remove any hardware from the system not absolutely necessary. If the mother board has onboard video, you can even take the video card out. If it still won't boot it's probably your OS. Try to boot from a CD or floppy boot disc. Something similiar happened on one of my machines. I was able to make it boot with a full report of everything it was trying to load, and the problem was with the file mup.sys. Apparently it's pretty common. Had to reinstall. |
Isn't there a good warrenty with it?
|
only if its because of the stock parts.. and i bet installing those custom ones voided the warranty.
why wont it let you boot into safe mode? (whats it do?) |
BLue screen of death means that when installing the drivers something crrupted
(system file) You can boot into safe mode. you just have to time it. My suggestion. Start from scratch. Fresh format. Install all new hardwear ect ect.. Should run 10x better anyways. If I am right build me a hosted gal free ;-) |

What happens is it goes through regular boot mode...gets to the windows xp load screen with the little blue "loading" bar at the bottom..then all of a sudden blue screen hits with some error..but it flashes for a split second and starts to reboot again...that's it. Doesn't matter if I do a normal start, safe start etc. |

Could be the power supply.

I wouldn't think so...I would think it would just restart. |
You are probably right, but i just had a power supply quit, so i think it is always the problem now :)
