What's the best US city for holidays?

Preferably located 'on' the beach. What are your favorites?

somewhere in Hawaii would sound good to me.. Don't come to Daytona all the Hotels are still closed because of storm damage. Biketober fest is going to suck for the bikers.

LOL - never been to hawaii, should be awesome. But actually my question referred to a 'non-island city', I mean like LA or San Diego...
