Why the fuck are people here embarrassed to do business?

I prefer to do business with people I like and I find it dismal that supposed businesspeople on this board and others act like admitting what their business is and trying to do some is somehow shameful. This is what lets total scammers pretend that they also have big biz interests and get integrated enough in the community to steal. Plus I'm proud of my job.

If I go to a trade show, it is wonderful if I meet people I can be friends with, but a trade show is for the purpose of doing business. So often someone will buy me a zillion dollar meal and then act like it is weird when I bring up ideas I have for sending them traffic. Or people who are supposedly web professionals will act like it is taboo to mention that a particular traffic source they have would probably have success upselling a particular product. WTF?

The biggest business deals happen on the golf course, everybody knows that.

That is my point exactly. I prefer to make deals with people I like, but a lot of GFYers act like it is crass to discuss traffic on the 8th hole.

That would be the point tho - the big deals happen on the "8th hole" because you want to do business with that person. You've invested time just getting to know that person/company - it becomes friendship as well as business. People miss the point of getting drunk and going to strippers/clubs/dinners/golfing with clients - it's to show a personal side, and not that the client is just a #.

eroswebmaster 10-02-2004 12:47 PM

You honestly believe people here know how to conduct business?

LOL The adult internet is for the most part a contraption held together by rubber bands and gum...some of the most unprofessional people I've ever seen in my life.

Both my paternal and maternal grandparents were founding members of country clubs. Heck, my paternal grandfather died on the golf course. Nobody in those environments thought it was odd to talk about business along with more social topics. And they did a lot of business.

pornguy 10-02-2004 12:55 PM

The golf coruse is a good place for some business, but there are others.

I peosonally like a coffee shop or a book store.

I think that trying to do business with a beer in hand and music so loud you have to scream is a waste of my time. Dont get me worng, I have done it in the past, last night infact, but I prefer to do it a quieter way.

:2 cents:

I don't think I've ever had a large client sign on the dotted line until after a night at some strip club, my business card holder is laced with strip club "VIP" passes

Country clubs has money in it all alone, considering 80% of your members will be business influencial people - the other 20% are just golf nuts...either way, good money and good connections if you know what you're doing.:Graucho

Never have truer words been written on GFY in the last 2 years :thumbsup

Most of the people posting here are making less than $5 a day.

They wouldnt know how to run a successfull business if they were given the chance to.

:1orglaugh No worries. Glad I didn't respond. I was totally sitting here thinking if my post sounded waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more offensive than I meant it. Mistaken identity explains it.

And let me make clear that there are a bunch of people who post here who I love to hang out with and love to chat with and love to do business with. I'm just talking about the weird shame a lot of people seem to have about promoting their product.

What got me thinking about this was Sleazy's thread about who is influential but does not spam. I really genuinely like him a lot and I don't think he should have to be embarrassed about doing promo.

Webby 10-02-2004 01:55 PM

Fuck the golf course! :-)

People either want to deal or not - if not, fuck off and don't waste my time..

Ain't got time to "talk about it"....

Truth is.. the net is no different to "real life" - 90% ain't got anything to do business with, so what's the point? :-) It's all talk and a waste of time.

Ask any sponsor how many of their affiliates do any business - less that 5%...

I think there is more than a degree of truth in that :glugglug

There are loads of adult webmasters who really don't want anyone to know how they earn a living - neverming let anyone see their websites. :-)

I've got utter crap websites and some better ones - this is not unusal and nothing to be "ashamed" of. Crap websites can earn money, which is the whole point of the exercise :-)

I discuss business wherever unless its inapropriet like in front of some kids or at a family event..

Bu other than that, my parents, relatives all know what I do, friends... etc... I'm very proud of what this business has brought me and my wife...

I think if you look at this industry as the number of people you are probably right.

What you have to remember is this part of porn is a new business, filled with new business men who are still learning. Where else would a businessman like Pimpdog act like he does, except on the Internet?

If most business is done on the golf course why have trade shows and expensive parties? Another statement revealing the inexperience of the businessmen here.

AmeliaG we all would prefer to do business with people we like, but in the real world we do business with people we trust. We might be wrong to trust them though.

sixxxthsense 10-03-2004 12:03 AM

people here make 0 dollars and they are useless SIG whores who act like they have shit going on in this bizz, uselsess pieces of shit! :thumbsup

AD we might take more notice of you if you were pushing your own site in your sig or am I wrong and you own Platinum Bucks.

Another examples of the level of businessmen here, thinks people will not notice it.

Honeyslut 10-03-2004 02:36 AM

Well this answers a question I always had.

:1orglaugh

AmeliaG 10-03-2004 11:43 AM

media -- yeah, those are pretty much my guidelines.

charly -- The irony of good points but without a sig was sort of getting me too. You are probably right that being biased to give people I like my business could be a problem. Better to look at trust factor first. Hard to trust people who don't want to exactly say outright what their business is though.

In general, I think our industry's acceptance of people who do not say anything about what their biz is . . . well, I think it leads to some of the deals where people end up getting ripped off. I think the rationale is if Person A does not state their biz but you know them and know they do well . . . it is easier to believe Person B who does not state their biz because their biz is scam artist.

Honeyslut -- uhm, what question?

swedguy -- you've got email :)

Its just good businss to me. I still need to tune that site and throw some more traffic at it....however...Ive been working the fetish angle ever since I saw how well it converted.

Dont get all excited though. its a redesign of one of my old pay sites that I had converted over to a free feeder. Im getting rid of all my old GonZo html and getting out fat fucking designer to make new faces for all of those sites.
