St. Helens is blowing right now!!
Looks like just a steam explosion..but the cloud is getting bigger!
Hopefully there is no ash in this sucker! |
Winds from the north..so it could affect Portland and surrounding areas. Though..it SEEMS so far to just be a steam explosion.

LOL, beat me by half a second :1orglaugh

Awesome video they are getting right down the throat of the volcano. Oh man! And apparently some ash IS comming out now.
|
They are really registering earthquakes right now big time inside of St. Helens and they have just confirmed that this is BOTH a steam AND ash explosion.
I just hope it doesn't get any bigger..the plume is turning from bright white to BLACK now. Can't believe they are allowing the news reporters to be so close! |

Now says "first eruption" appears to be diminishing.
Now they are wondering if there will be others. |
Ok..move along folks..nothing to see..right now...
eruption has apparently stopped. But say there could be another or series of eruptions still. |
I was wondering why people would live near a volcano until I looked up this map of Pacific Rim earthquakes (real-time updates) and I'm wondering why I live in California.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/ On CNN they were saying that the volcanic activity is linked to the earthquakes experienced down in California earlier in the week. How scary is that? The rest of the US map is looking pretty good - except for all those hurricanes, tornados, floods, etc. etc. etc.. I guess nowhere is completely safe. Best wishes & good luck to everyone in the Mt. St Helens area. :thumbsup |
taken right from the mount st helens site

That's interesting..because in both print and tv, they had been reporting that the earthquakes in California, Alaska, and the ones in St. Helens were simply a coincidence and had no connection to each other. |

Little bit of white on the right side, not sure if it's steam or just a cloud. |
