Guaranteed 99.9% uptime... What it means.

My host is H2oh-hosting.com

They were down/screwed up for over 24 hours last week (lost a hard drive). First time since I've been with them.

They guarantee 99.9% uptime...

And they came through! No hosting bill for me this month! These guys kick ass!

On top of that, they're dirt cheap. Notice, people... No referral code. I don't make a dime if you sign up with them. I just want to send some good people some business. They just gave a whole lot of people 29 days of free hosting this month...

Why were you doen for 24 hrs for a blown HD?

That happened to me at Webair and I had a new HD and back up and running in about 30 min or so.

You'd have to ask them... I didn't, my technical knowledge isn't that great when it comes to servers, but they sent me status reports every couple of hours until the problem was fixed.

All my sites are working 100% again.

:thumbsup Did I mention they're dirt cheap? I'm on a virtual plan...

for most people, 24 hours of down time costs them more than a month's hosting bill :2 cents:

Magg 10-01-2004 09:26 AM

dont know about h20h, but i hate being labelled as 'cheap'. I dont think it should be reason at all someone picks a host.

i remember reading a few years ago that the costs to offer 99.9% uptime compared to 99.5% was a differance of nearly 20%... when you think about operating costs, thats a LOT and it all gets passed onto the customer.

if i recall... 99.9% uptime = out to about 7 minutes of downtime per day

dantheman 10-01-2004 09:29 AM

replacing harddrives takes minutes not hours

Like I said, it's the ONLY time I know of that it's happened... and they kept their word. At great cost to themselves.

Yeah, it cost me money... but a guarantee like that tells you it's not going to happen often.

They gave up their entire income for a month... but they still have to pay THEIR bills. It hurts them a lot more than it does me.

I'm sticking with 'em. I'll bet it never happens again.

My shits backed up , I only assumed. If he didnt have backups, then a HD swap would takes a few minutes plus the guy uploaded from his local machine backups (assuming he has those)

Dagwolf 10-01-2004 09:49 AM

All data was restored, including MySQL databases...

They had it backed up SOMEWHERE.

(I have it backed up too, just in case. Always.)

It's been a really bad month for me... dont feel like talking about downtime :feels-hot

99%... I wish..

Jace 10-01-2004 10:25 AM

24 hours down? holy shit that is a lot of money

and 1 month free???? that is it??? fuck that shit

for 24 hours down I better get at least 2-4 months free...

24 hours can be upwards of $1000 in lost sales and traffic
