 Changing servers...

I'm thinking the best way to insure a seamless (or as seamless as possible, lol) transfer is to upload all my pages to my new server before I have the nameservers switched...
Am I on the right track here? Any pointers? TIA PS, No, I haven't settled on a server, though of course I'm leaning towards my baddog's NaughtyBandwidth.:thumbsup |

I move servers everday, the way some people change underwear, to load balance, accomodate new business, etc.
Secret is to clone the new server with rsync, and test it. Then switch your nameservers. It helps to first lower the TTL in your current DNS to 5 minutes or something, otherwise you end up with both hosts being live for a day or two in caches, not a big problem but you end up with new joins and members getting assigned to one server or the other. |

Yeah, we just clone it on the new server. That way people don't notice the switch over

the TTL trick mentioned above will help greatly.

I want to thank RCN for giving me fucking phenomenal service-I'll be switching over to them! (See sig!)
Thanks for the advice guys, both here and on ICQ, it's much appreciated... RCN handles all transfers for it's clients...how cool is that! All I have to do is update my DNS , and the rest is cake!:thumbsup |
