digital cameras. wich one should i buy ?

already bough an photo camera, a sony DSC 717 but now i am not sure about the best digital camera to buy. i will need it to shoot some hardcore action :Graucho and i need to get the best quality possible on the original source image. the new cameras record already on the mini DVD and that would save much trouble but, i have a personal camera that uses Digital Video tapes and for me the quality of Digital Video is way more superior than DVD quality but with this kind of video i have the problem of the conversion, compression etc that takes huge amount of hours and i always have dropped frames when capturing the DV to the computer. I have been weeks reading everything about DV and compression, encoding, creating menus, creating effects etc but in some movies i cant avoid dropped frames. my computer is a laptop Pentium 2.4Ghz, 512 DDRAM, Radeon 7200 what should be enough even the video editting is the most abusive aplication out there. i am sure on this board there are many guys that can give me their valuable opinion. what camera should i go with?

thanks in advance :)

Yes, we are all so professional :)

A sony camera for photos? LOL
Jsut to mention it, there is no way around for this for photos:

maybe the D1 and as a backup the D100 or new D70

For DVD there are only two cams on the market:

or the older one

We need range of prices acceptible for you. Th etendency is that the higher price the better quality and sharpness of preferences you get.

Canon XM2 not expencive but perfect quality camcoder.

i tought in spending 15k usd to start (i have more 20k but i dont like to wast money, so planning thing and buying carefully is very important to me), i ll need the camera to shoot content for some reality sites. Already got some good babes.

i dont intend to open any content provider company, content is for our personal use. i dont think i need something ultra professional but i want it to be enough professional ;) if you understand me.

We use the Sony VX2000 for video, and the Sony F828 for stills. Extremely happy with both! :thumbsup

Sony VX2000 and Canon XM2 are two similar level things. Its just a case of personal sympathy to the brand. Both are perfect ones to even DVD films.

The new Sony HDV cam will be out in November. I am getting one.

The best Mini DV cams out now are the XL2 and The Panny DVX. But for someone who just wants to turn a cam on a shoot then the VX2100 is the best bet.

Want to make your content 10 times better than most of the crap you see? Just use a few softboxes. For real. You can use a decent camera but get great results if you just put up some basic lights.
