Would you use a webmaster accounting service?

Would people be interested in using a webmaster accounting service to handle all their various sponsor payments and checks?

I think a lot of people follow their stats very carefully, but they don't notice when a check doesn't come on time, or when one comes but for the incorrect amount. And what happens when you are not home for a couple weeks to collect and cash your checks?

What if there was a webmaster accounting service that handled everything for you (for a small fee, of course) which made one periodic deposit into your account with an online report showing you all payments and discrepancies?

Someone should set that shit up, there is my free million dollar idea of the day...

The guys from Mansion and Electra Cash did set up a service like this. It would prove massivily popular if someone did it full time.

I would never use it. Too many people in this industry like to sell personal information to other companies.

The problem is that this webmaster accounting service would need to have access to all your stats and most people wouldn't use it because of this.

We were thinking about adding something like this to StatsRemote but we just didn't see a way to automate it. There are many problems...

- Programs have different pay periods (sometimes not specified in the stats)

- In many cases you need to specify a minimum payment (often not listed anywhere in the stats).

- The check amount often doesn't match the $$$ amount in the stats due to check or wire fees.

and many more...

but its hard i think.

if theres a cheque coming on my name Hans Blaat, only my can cash the cheque to my bank account, or am i wrong?

No it's just another way that you could potentially lose your money in this biz.

Wow, you guys are a negative bunch!

8 years ago, what would you have said to "Hey everyone, lets all use one merchant account and a common system to bill all our members!"

lol

interesting idea, but i like the idea of doing as much in house as possible... from shooting, to editing, to design, to payroll, etc

easier to keep secrets that way :winkwink:

look at the scams and shit in the last 8 years :1orglaugh

I wouldn't use it. I have an accountant who's like a hawk who makes sure every penny is accounted for. If webmasters always scream at the thought of shaving, imagine if a third party got involved?

I'm talking about an accounting service. There would obviously have to be privacy and security measures in place for it to work. Just like when you have your taxes done by H&R Block, do you hide all your info from them?

You are basically already using a service then. Can I hire your accountant to watch mine? I don't want to pay for full accounting services and taxes, just bookkeeping services.

I think there's a difference. A biller never has access to all your info/stats and most people use several billing companies.

In this case one company would have access to all your info/stats and even cash all your checks and receive all your wires, so you would totally depend on them. I have no problem with our accountants having all our info but they are not some online company somewhere and they are not in control of our money.

$30/hour is what they charge. I basically just send to him a print out of my stats (or what I'm expecting) and he does the rest. Ends up being a couple hundred a month, definitely a nice service to keep my life stress free :)
