Pilots attacked during Norway flight

A man in his 30s attacked two pilots and a passenger with an axe on a domestic Norwegian flight this morning, injuring three people.

The pilots managed to land the Kato Air flight which was on its way from Narvik to Bodoe in northern Norway.

The attacker was immediately arrested at Bodoe airport.



Witnesses said several people were covered with blood, and three people were taken to hospital. They were reported to have injuries which were not life threatening.

The motive for the attack is unclear, however, police said it could be tied to the man's asylum status.

The attacker had been living at a northern Norwegian centre for asylum seekers. His application for asylum had been rejected according to police.

The attacker was from Algeria

the flight was from one of our 28 smaller domestic airports... it's the same all over europe really.. no checks until new laws applies january 1st.. no problem carrying a gun or two with you on a smaller domestic flight..

must have been pretty scary.. the plane was only 100 feet(!) above the ground before one of the pilotes managed to get control.. no way I'm getting on a plane with an asylum seeker!

I had a nail clipper taken away from me because they said it can be used as a weapon, and this guy gets on board with an axe?

no nail clippers if you visit one of our larger airports.. but this flight was a Dornier 228 small aircraft with 7 passengers.. no checks at smaller airports with these kinds of aircrafts..

BUT that axe looks BIG? .. ps.. he also had a hunting nife with him :helpme
