What do you know about places offering survival training?

Let's face it.... it could happen. Things could happen in the world that, if you survive, would leave a lot of people in a very dicey predicament, largely because they know sweet fuck all about survival techniques.

Planes crash, cars run out of gas, shit happens. My question is... for someone interested in some intense survival training that might include some military techniques and also serve to get you back in shape..... where would one go for such training other than joining the military?

Do such programs exist?

I expected no less than a few thousand for such a program.

Do any of you have any links I can look at, especially of something that you actually know about? I know much of the basics of wilderness survival, but only the very basics. I know nothing about what programs might be reputable or who to avoid etc.

Okay, if this thread sparks any interest for anyone else, someone just sent me this link over icq......

They have a ton of what he is saying are reputable programs listed. I skimmed the list briefly, and many look very intriguiing to say the least. That one in Australia looks quite interesting, and there is one where they take you down to the jungles of central America, I love what it says on their listing......

"Randall specializes in primitive and jungle survival in the jungles of Central and South America. They "do not guarantee you'll have fun," but they advertise that you will learn a lot. Randall is co-author of "Adventure Travel In The Third World."

:1orglaugh too cool.
