Do you ever email domain owners with really lowball offers hoping they don't appreciate the value of what they have?

Yes. It never works for me.

Seems to me that it would be better just to ask the domain owner if he's interested in selling and then get HIM/HER to state a starting price.

If you offer too much up front, they might think you're trying to fuck them over, which you basically are.

I have made a few inquiries about domains not currently in use but most of the time I never get a reply.

75% of the people who email us about a domain are ignored. After years of domain speculation it is very easy to see who is serious about doing business and who will waste your time.

You might easily piss em off so I wouldnt be doing that if i wanted the domain badly

I never really had a domain worth selling for huge money, so the offers that i hve gotten were reasonable.

Offer what you think is a fair price and you will do better...
