Webmasters and Designers, Do You...
 

Draw out your ideas by hand before embarking on your design journey or do you fire up your program and fiddle around until you get the desired effect?

What do you do? I'm curious because I just hired a new designer and he just goes at it without a plan but most of his designs just don't have "it". I'm going to fire his ass. I suggested the "drawing it out first" method and he said that his drawing skills sucked. :eek7

Designer and Illustrator are two completely different things.

Our best designers can't draw by hand.. but when they can do both it's a great combination.

I have sketched out layouts before...but generally that's about it.

If I am doing cartoon stuff I will sketch it out first and then convert it to digital. For other designs though I usually do not. Sometimes I will if I am having a hard time seeing in my head what I want to do but most times that's not a problem.

Webmasters, designers, photographers, video editors etc.. your work in any/all of these fields will always be superior to your peers IF you come from a traditional design background. You either have the "eye" or you do not - it can't be taught :2 cents:

If u are a good (web) designer, you dont need to draw a layout it comes completely from ur brain... in a very fucking cool way, that u always want to modify it more and more and more... until u reach the client deadline (for example) :P
(i always go without a plan, maybe 2 or 3 words from my boss and thats it, i let the shit flow... it has worked for me... so if it dont works for the guy u hired... prolly he sucks [with all the respect] )

If u are an illustrator.. well... u gotta be good with ure hands (to draw shit of course)
