Will Conan be less funny when he takes over the Tonight Show?

To Conan fans, do you think Conan will be less funny when he takes over the Tonight Show in '09?

Spunky 09-28-2004 07:01 PM

Geez thats like 5 years from now..Talk about hype

Zerof8 09-28-2004 07:02 PM

There is no telling. I think it was a mistake for them to name the predeccesor 5 years in advance though. I know it was a big deal when Johnny left and it was between Leno and Letterman but someone may pop that is better in the next few years.

I don't hitnk he'll be "less funny", but it will definately be a different kind of humor than what he's doing now...

Yeah. I'm guessing that it will (obviously) just be him hosting the Tonight Show vs. him taking his show to that slot.

bringer 09-28-2004 07:03 PM

hopefully he runs the same show at a different time
if not he'll lose both audiences

evildick 09-28-2004 07:04 PM

No doubt he will be censored more in that time slot.

Since it is 5 years away, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I could be dead before then, if I don't start getting some exercise.

It took quite some time for Conan to blossom into the comedian he is today.

Look at his show 5 years ago and look at it today. The humour is different.

And in 5 years from now, it will be different yet. I hardly see a masturbating bear on the tonight show.

I don't think Conan will be less or more funny. I think he will be just as funny. But his humour will obviously be different.

Who says Jay Lenno was funny to begin with?

Conan is awesome and will do 10 fold better. Especially with the improved time slot. I mean thats what we are talkin about here anyways right?

A lousy time slot?

reynold 09-28-2004 07:19 PM

i dunno.... im not a conan fan but i like the way he makes people laugh.

I'd have to disagree...look at Letterman since he went to 11:30. They told him he couldn't pull it off..and while he does decent at CBS he hasn't ruled that time slot since the big Hugh Grant interview on Leno.

I knew I had to stop watching Letterman the day my 70+ year old grandparents started telling me about this funny man with a talk show and his name was David Letterman.

I don't doubt that. I just hope he doesn't lose his edge.

He is funny as hell right now! With the Walker Texas Ranger clips I could laugh for days

The time slot has a lot to do with the style of the show.

11:30 represents an entirely different audience..which is why the guys at NBC never really thought Letterman could pull it off...you have more older people watching in that time slot...anyway only time will tell.

Only reason Leno has one over on Conan right now is the guest lists.

Once Conan has those, ratings will go through the roof. I have little doubt.

The number of viewers to Conan and Leno are near the same.
But yes OLDER audience plays into it.

I think it is only because he has a better time slot myself with a better number of guests that got better profiles.

Conan will never grow till leno steps out of the time slot.
Surely if they were to switch Leno for Conan...

Leno would faulter just because of the time slot in comparison to those viewers.

How is it possible that Leno has nearly the same numbers?

The main issue will be the same as it was with Letterman. Once again 11:30 represents a different type of audience.

It's not usually your up late college kid audience who gets a kick out of warped humor like Conan and Letterman back in the day.

The host usually has to tone it down a bit....the big issue will be whether or not 50+ year old midwesterners who love Leno will "get" Conan...regardless of who the guests are.

cosis 09-28-2004 07:28 PM

Conan is naturally funny, Jay Leno's writers are funny.. When he gives an interview he is a goofass

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-28-2004 07:31 PM

Time will only tell Eros:)

Emm I think Conan has more talent than Leno, I actually watch Conan, I gave Leno plenty of time and he just does not do it for me.

But then G4 show hosts are 10 fold better than the both of them just because they are young and in my age group. Something that NBC does not think about really...

NBC is out of touch with the audience in its humor and target markets.
By the way Eros, I hope that book I reccomended came in:)

Yeah. But that slot will mean that his jokes and overall show will change. (New writers, etc.)

Connan sucks and it will ruin the tonight show if he takes it over. He is not funny and its almost sad seeing him try so hard to be funny.

Yeah, I don't know why the announcement was made at this time. Maybe 3 years from now there will be some other guy they choose or Conan decides not to go thru with it. Five years is an eternity in show biz.

I like Leno and Conan. Different audiences. Leno's writers are better but Conan is better/quicker/funnier on his feet with guests. Leno is more traditional and Conan is currently targeting younger audiences (sometimes his show is beyond immature).

Ya do not know how mainstream Hollywood works.

The writers wont really change cuz the Conan writers for the most part will remain intact as it is the formula to Conans success in the first place.

Gutting Conans writers would be suicide.

Sly 09-28-2004 07:56 PM

I don't like Conan. He has stupid humor. I don't find stupid humor funny.

Its worse then stupid humor. Its does not even seem to be thought out or any type of plan. Also, his timing is aweful.

He makes Dumb and Dumber or whatever the squal was to that Jim Carey movie look really good. That mive was AWEFUL stupid humor... and Conan could not eat at same table as those guys.

Jimmy Kimmel would make a much better Tonight Show host... I think Conan is on his way out.. if not.. he should be.

gornyhuy 09-28-2004 08:11 PM

There is no possible way that Conan or Leno could be LESS funny.

You could put cancer patients and starving children up there and it would be funnier.
