my buddy just reformatted his PC not long ago. he had bought WinXP Pro from the store for a ridiculous amount like 400 bucks or something.

and when he tried to reinstall it it told him his serial number had already been registered and he couldn't install windows.

took about 3 hours on the fone with MS to get them to release it so he could use it again.

I installed sp2 and that's what broke my computer. Fuck steve jobs too. he may have something to do with this.

dude..i used the same one (xp pro) on like 4 PCs and i just had to call after 30 days and it took about 5mins on an automated system to get new pins....

nah funny thing is I am posting from laptop with sp2 no issues.

other main pc took a shit.

they still suck ...and i have reformatted about 15 PCs in the last year.....

i know it takes me 6+ hours to rebuild

that is why I have more than one machine. If one is down I don't have to worry. Just go from my laptop to my desktop, etc. When all else fails I use my desktop which has a dual boot.... winxp and mandrake linux..... never have a prob with linux.... :)

Take the code from your service code stickers on the dell and you can get the drivers from the dell site.....

Here's a tip, give Windows its own drive or partition. That way you don't have to backup and re-install *everything*

ive got my stuff partioned up pretty well - o/s on the first 20gigs of my drive, all data on the other 180gigs...

ive learned the hard way about partitions - 20gigs isnt that bad to do... im just too lazy to get and install ghost on this and another puter i have

All my computers (Dells) came with Pro but I went and found the MS Windows XP Corporate SP2 edition on the p2p networks so I don't have to deal with the activation shit.

i really should , but being a pc users for so many years it would take me time to adjust

Install windows and all drivers. Get Norton Ghost and make an image. If you need to reinstall it only takes 2 minutes to restore the image. :2 cents:
