World Series Of Poker - Sad

I missed a few days on the WSOP on ESPN. I didn't get to see Greg Raymer with the stupid glasses win and I have no idea what I was watching when I saw Annie Duke win the 2 million.

You gatta be pretty messed up to check raise your brother all in when he has no chance with that hand haha. Also after the chick dominated the other kid he had a horrible attitude. Personally, I think Johnny Chan deserved to win that tournament or Annie Duke's brother.

But by far, I think the WSOP is almost as fun to watch as Monday Night Football. They need to televise poker more often, give it the credit it deserves!

I like this year's extended coverage of the World Series of Poker. I have missed a lot of the televised stuff, though, because of my sleeping schedule and the fact that I am out playing poker a lot of times when the coverage is on.

Poker coverage is huge in the UK now on cable/sat. Also some of the best entertainment around when you get into it...or maybe I'm just a sad bastard who watches too much of it.

US is begining to televise it more then they have in the past.

I've noticed FOX has a tournament going on that was invitation only. I'm not to fond of the fact that over the past 2 weeks, I've watched the same Fox Series 1 3 times though. They need to speed up the time between Series 1 and 2, and jsut get to the finals.

The worst has to be the celeberty poker crap! Not fun to watch, they are horrible card players! Just a way for companies to make money. I bet the celebs don't even want to be there....

Annie didn't check raise. She bet $70k, he went all in, she called.

I think its awesome that a girl won!! :)

dkextbmx 09-27-2004 02:11 PM

I'm not to happy bout the girl winning...not cause I'm sexist. But, I do think the 2nd through 4th place players are better players then her.

But she did win, and thats how it goes...so congrats to her!

Just like Moneymaker last year , Raymer was catching cards like crazy. He played great poker, leaning on everyone with his fat stack. It will be interesting to see if he continues to win. He seems like such a fucking nerd. Moneymaker has been an overall dissapointment.

dkextbmx 09-27-2004 02:19 PM

MoneyMaker...got lucky last year. You won't hear much about him again. that's my opinion.

Eve, have you seen the movie Rounders? My fav. movie of all time. Follows the game of poker perfectly!

The World Series of Poker is nothing but a lottery now....just about anyone with good poker skills can win.

They are expecting 5,000-10,000 next year.

The Player of the Year award while not making anywhere near the kind of cash the "World Champion" does will become more important as time goes on..because it truly represents the best overall player.

It's been huge in the US the past year or 2 also.

Raymer has been successful in poker long before the world series.

Yep, Rounders is a good flick! I wish everyone had a "cookie tell" !

eros, I totally agree with the lottery comment. It seems like that trend will happen with the other big tourneys too. Even though a lot of randoms will probably make the final tables or win hopefully we will still see the final tables made up of mostly famous faces. I love that more women are playing and look forward to seeing more women at final tables.

stock, what happened to your poker experiment? :) What is Raymers history? I know he's been playing for a long time but I thought he just a hobbyist.

Thought it must have been given that even the adult boards were hit with a kind of poker fever.

I haven't been playing as much as I should lately - really must do something about that.

The only thing that pises me off about televised poker is the US's hatred of sponsorship if they're not getting the money directly. The fuzzing out of the middle of the table gets annoying after a while.
